In my 44spl loads under a HyTEK coated 240gr LSWC from summersenterprises I use only Trail Boss powder starting at 4.0gr.

I think somewhere around 4.5grs of Trail Boss is what I was using.

My moderate load for 44 spl , using a 245 gr swc , rnfp etc is 6.0 grs of IMR-700X . Red Dot works well too , same load . I got these loads from Mike Venturing in an article he wrote for Hand Loader magazine . If you find 6 grs too much , you can easily back it down to 5.0 for less recoil . Good Luck , Regards, Paul

My usual practice load in .44 Spl. is a 240 cast LSWC with 6.5 grains Unique, +/- 750-800FPS, accurate and very pleasant to shoot in all of my .44's (S&W 1950 Target, Colt SAA, Model 29 4", Model 29 6.5", and Model 629 3"). Not a "powder puff" load, but not punishing either. Plenty of oomph to do business if necessary.

I like a 250g SWC over 6.5g W231/HP38.

I figure it to be @ 850fps.

6.5 grains Unique or (I prefer) Universal.
Seems to work well with most 240±10 grain bullets cast, coated, plated, or jacketed.

Take care if a pre 1944........ a 2nd will take more pressure and
the modern weapons will shoot all loading data.

I can't remember what model you are shooting.
Stay safe.

Alliant Red Dot

If not, Unique can do anything.
