Default Second hand primers?

There are some CCI pistol primers available locally, but I don’t really know their age/history. Grey boxes with red (magnum) or blue (standard). I have not seen in person, but pics of boxes look good. Seller says they are only one year old , but likely he’s had them a year. I’ve never seen these on the shelf, but only been loading for four years. Asking $20 a box. Thoughts or opinions appreciated.
David.

Offer 15 per M if you take 'em all. Not that old. If the boxes have never been wet they will be fine. Heck I've never gotten bad primers from anywhere other than a batch of Federals that had a recall on them

I probably shouldn't admit this publicly, but I have used some very old (and possibly poorly stored) primers, including those pictured, and they've worked fine. Lord knows how old these are (probably well before 1962 when the child warning started), but they still go bang. Of course, I am not relying on them for competitive shooting.

I've used primers that have been sitting here for well over a year. Never had a problem. I shot ammo that was left over from WWII (.303 Enfield) and never had an issue. As long as they're kept away from moisture and condensation I don't see where it would be a problem.

I have some Winchester primers from the 50's and they are still good.

I also happen to have some WWII Frankfort Arsenal primers sold by the DCM in 1947 Yeah they are not non corrosive but they still go bang and work just fine with surplus 4895

Even if they got wet at one point in their life they will go bang once dried out.
Oil is their worst ennemy;water they can handle.

I once bought an estate that included over 24,000 primers. I shot some and traded many. I think the oldest were Alcan's from the 60's. They will probably go bang but the price is high for not knowing storage, and true age. If they are a year old ask to see receipts or price stickers. In my mind at most I would offer $15 per K. If I buy new and something fails I can expect the manufacture to stand behind their product as well as the store. You are paying pawn shop prices for a no warranty unknown age situation.

The age of the primers is pretty irrelevant. Likely they’ll work just fine.

The only issue is price.

Offer half what new would cost for them all.

As said above: If the price is right, they are probably fine. I've shot properly stored rounds that were more than a hundred years old.

I'm using primers that were bought the Wednesday after Obama's first election. They go bang every time. Still have a few Bill Clinton election primers also, large rifle magnum.

I was given some primers that Noah must have had on the Ark with him. The waxed cardboard falls apart and they are tarnished pretty badly, been reloading for about 40 years and never have I seen these boxes before. I've shot thousands of these for target and plinking with no problems. Even with that being said I wouldn't use them for hunting or self defense.

All the primers I have now have been purchased from local individuals that are cutting inventory or getting out of reloading.

With normal store prices around $30+ for Rem,Win,Fed and CCI I consider getting them for $20/1000 and no tax/hazmat an excellent price.

I only buy sealed powder.

Thank you for all the responses. He would not come off the $20 a box price. I may pick up a couple boxes anyway.

What part of Ky? I would be interested in your leftovers. LOL! I still have some primers that go or too, late 80's early 90's I'm thinking.

Those two fellows did a lot to stimulate gun and ammo sales.

I'm just now using up the last of my Bill Clinton primers, purchased in his first term. Never a problem with any not doing what they were intended to do.

Prior to that, I never purchased in bulk, just a thousand or so at a time.

I've not had any luck with second hand primers, they seem to only fire once...

Sorry, I had to...

I finished up some Remington 9 1/2M primers a few years ago that were bought when Nixon was in office. They still worked just as good as when they were new. Primers will last a long time.
