I have several "AMERC" .44 Special empty Brass.
The rims appear to be very thin compared to R-P brass.
Who manufacture this brass and why is the rims thinner ?

Haha, I tell you this in good faith, one handloader to another. I've logged 30 years at a load bench, I don't know everything but I've put a lot of time, care and love in to this hobby.

With most anything, simply put, there must exist a single "worst" of it's kind. You are looking at it. Nobody ever made worse cartridge brass than A-Merc brass. It will be the most "dimensionally variable" brass that you ever come across.

Honestly, it isn't good for anything. This includes "lost brass" sessions where you cannot get your brass back.

The job that cartridge brass does is too important to use the worst brass ever dumped on the public. A-Merc absolutely is the worst, ever, period, end of story.

As for who manufactures it, many have tried to figure it out and nobody has ever come to a strong conclusion that I am aware of. A-Merc was a shoddy ammunition outfit, I don't believe their brass was ever available as a component, only as loaded ammunition. Their last known address for manufacturing was in Florida, I bet it's been a decade or more since they were in business.

I have read many posts about Amerc brass, and they always warn against using this brass. I seem to recall head separation/failure. Based on those warnings, I always put brass with that head stamp into the recycling bin.

All the A-Merc brass I come across goes in the recycle bucket.

Yep, good for scrap only. I had some factory ammo loaded with this brass. I t was very affordable 45acp that used a plated bullet. Out of two five inch 1911's it tumbled. It also left the thin bullet plating stuck in the paper target.

It soured me. Not sure but it may have been "American Ammunition"?

Don't forget to crush the case mouth with pliers first, so some poor, uninformed reloader doesn't buy it from the scrap yard to reload.

I'm going to be the odd man out here, as happens so often.

Several years ago I purchased a 3-box lot of assorted reloading parts & equipment, along with whatever detritus accumulated in the boxes over the years.
Part of the lot were many boxes of once-fired brass, in the original 50-round boxes. Several boxes of Amerc brass included, mostly in 44 Mag.

I sorted the various brass, pitching the obvious trash, and cleaned the remainder. I ended up with a few hundred Amerc brass in 44 Mag.

I've been using that brass ever since. I never use it in full-snort loads, but i do use it in regular 1000-1100 fps range loads. I use normal inspection procedures after firing, and prior to reloading.
Once I sorted out the off-center flash holes, the thin rims, and whatever oddities I found, the Amerc brass has lasted much like any other. When it splits at the neck, I cut it to 44Spl length and use it up. If I had a 44 Russian, I would probably use it there too.

Perhaps it's my innate frugal-ness (is that even a word? Frugality ? ), but I see no reason to condemn the entire lot due to irregularities in a few pieces. Some homemade quality control would go a long way here.

Pitch the bad, keep the good. Use it up.

I don't come across much A-Merc brass but when I do it's usually the one that jams up my XL650 while reloading. I try to cull it out of my range pick-up beforehand, but once in a while I miss one. I've only come across it in .45 Auto.

You might save a few, just to use the deprimed case for the use
of a OAL length "Dummy Load" with different types and weight bullets?

I use a "Dummy case" for a lot of needs, from getting a OAL to finding what
amount of powder it takes for a compressed loading or what the
volume in a case is with a certain powder.

A great thing to have when belled enough to let a bullet slide down
the case, to see how much Trail Boss powder is a maximum charge
when just touching the bullets base.

However tossing them is also a good idea..........

Can you reload it? Probably. Is it safe? More than likely. How many reloading will you get? Very few. Can you get good consistent handloads? Prolly not. Just overall poor quality brass and ask on any forum and you'll get the same response as the above posts; trash it...

Ya, that bad. Case head separations/blow-outs, off center primer holes, totally out of spec brass, primers falling out of pockets, etc.
