Sig P220 10mm: looking for medium velocity 10mm loads
Just picked up super nice Sig P220 10mm hunter. Love it.
I ordered Hornady XTP JHP in
180 gr
200 gr
My goal is to make up medium hot accuracy loads able to reach to 50 - 75 yards comfortably and be incredibly accurate. Not bunker busting. Looking for 900 - 1000 ft/s.
What is you favorite powder choice?
I love HS-6 in 44 spl and will try it.
I also read about great results with W231 for target loads in the Nosler book but they may drop beyond 25 yards.
Any recommendations are appreciated.
Thank you!

I use WW231/HP38 and AA#5 also AutoComp all are good 10mm powders for that velocity range

I use Hodgdon Universal with 180gr LTCFP for 1000 fps.
10mm-firearms.com - Index
Fun caliber to shoot and very accurate.

My 10mm's seem to be the most accurate at about 1,100 f.p.s. I have loaded and shot a lot of the 180 gr. XTP's but have found the Speer 180 grain Gold Dot to be more accurate for me. I use 13.4 grains of AA9 and get some steller groups out to 50 yards. A lot of the loaders on the forums recommend Blue Dot for 10mm. I bought a pound of it and 10.4 grains at 1100 f.p.s. is an incredibly accurate load.

Great info, thanks...which 10mm is that? Sounds like you are even on AA9 and Blue Dot?

1006 and Ruger SR1911. Yeah, I may give the Blue Dot a slight accuracy advantage, but it has a huge muzzle flash... which some guys think is COOL!

I also like Blue Dot and AA#9 in my S&W 1076. Have also used 800x and AA#7. Haven't picked a favorite. I have been using mostly the xtreme 165 gr. in the 1050 - 1100 range. I really like my 10mm.

For me, a medium 10mm load is still well over 1000fps, especially with 180gr. You can do pretty much what you want with Unique or any of the medium burners. I might try some PowerPistol or BE86 at those vel levels. What you are looking at in 900fps range is a 40s&w?? If you want true 10mm loads, then BlueDot, Longshot or AA#7 & 9 work great. You van download the AA#7 pretty well so that might be a double duty choice.

I use 11.5 grains of AA#7 pushing a 180 XTP-HP to about 1100 in the handgun as my not-fullpower loading. This shoots very well in most all of my firearms chambered for the 10MM Auto I have not chronographed it out of the carbine or the little CS-10s

This maybe a little hotter than you're looking for but the HDY 180gr HAP loaded with 7.6gr of Power Pistol (~1050fps) was the most accurate charge of P-P in my 1006 & 1076's I've tested.
Surprisingly, I've found 2400 also very accurate in my 10mm's, though on the slow side (burn rate). 12.0gr/2400 with this same bullet (~1075fps) is another good one though I usually use the hotter 13.0gr load in mine.
