Question TESTING

Was finally able to get to the range and test my .38 S&W loadings over the old Crony: They are moving out at 546/600fps . Seems about right for these 1919/20, hundred year old guns. Using Missouri bullets over W231 -- Any one else test their loads in this manner?? Right on target as well. Have gotten sort of fond of these little rascals. Am looking for a decent Victory in like caliber.

Testing your handloads by chronographing them is probably a common
practice by most on here regardless of caliber. I chronograph every new
load I develop to check velocity and consistency.

That velocity is about 100 fps slower than what I would like to see. You run a risk of a bullet getting stuck in the barrel.

I do test my loads if I change any component. LabRadar makes it really easy cause I can use it at my indoors range. Same as Warren Sear I wouldn't be comfortable with that MV (under 600 fps).

I too enjoy the little 38 S&W and reload 145 grain LRN over a tiny .3cc dipper full of HP 38. Works well though I have no chrono. for velocity comparisons. The tiny little nickel Regulation Police is fun to shoot but I am also on the lookout for a K frame to shoot 38S&W out of. A bigger gun with sights a little larger should make accuracy more consistent. 600 fps should be enough to keep from getting a squib. My Lee die set shows 2.3 grains of win231 for 675 fps and 2.2 g of hp38 for 630 fps. The little guns that are 100 years old like mine could probably only handle 800 fps maximum.
