On my Gosh........ !!
Went into the LSGS to pick up some fly tying stuff and went by the reloading section, since it has been a while.
100 pistol primers start at $2.69 !!!
How things have changed.

Yep, inflation. when I began reloading CCI primers were way below a dollar (.89 per C?). But during the last panic they were over $4.00 per hundred, or $40.00 per brick...

That is actually quite a fair price in todays market.

Or more! During the Obama 2012 scare, Federal small primers were going for $100/1000 in some places. Crazy. Why I keep a 2y reserve on any primer I shoot a lot.

That would make them 26.99 pre 1000, in todays market that's a very good price. I can only get a slightly better price if I buy a case of 5000 and that's generally how I buy my primers.

Throw in shipping, tax and hazmat, and your over $30/1K.
If I walked in to a LGS with Win SPP's at $26.90/1K, the only question I'd ask is "how many do you have?"

Dang, Ed, you need to get out more often 'cause its been a Loooonnng while since I've seen that price on primers around here. Pretty much $32-40/ 1000 ; maybe $30 if I happen upon a sale.

Even with sales tax, that is cheaper than I can buy them & have them delivered to my house. At $29/1000, I would probably leave with 20K.

My last primer order was $18 per 1K to the door delivered, but President Obama had not yet been sworn. The order was placed Wednesday morning after the elections results on Tuesday night. Yeah I did order 11 cases of 5K each (I ordered for 3 people who don't like interruptions). There are a few left, along with a couple of pounds of $19 / pound powder. I was a Boy Scout.

A few years ago, a B-I-L (now exB-I-L), got very upset because He ran out of 22 RF and small rifle primers, and I had 125,000 22's and 85,000 primers of various sizes. I explained I bought bricks and loose boxes of 22's when I saw close outs, starting in the 70's. Starting back in the Clinton regime, I would buy a 5000 primer sleeve every month.
I did inventory a month or two ago and am down to critical levels! Only 45 thousand metallic primers and 12 thousand shotshell primers (W209). Time to be stocking up while the political winds are favorable.
I have a shooting buddy, that saw that 22's would be scares and bought 2,000,000. He didn't sell them for a big profit, He used them for leverage on trades on guns and Jewelry and did very well, and had kept some gun stores stocked during the drought! 1,000,000 22's is 200 cases, same for primers. That is one fork lift pallet full each, you can fit a lot in a garage car bay!

When I know I need primers I generally wait until a seller offers hazmat free shipping. I bought 4000 Remington back in Dec. for just over 25.00 per thousand but your right if my LGS was offering primers at 26.90 I'd buy all they had.

I'd say that's a pretty good price too. During the drought I saw them listed for outrageous prices, but I would not pay above $30 per brick. Cabela's would often put some on sale for $25 or so , and I bought more than I needed. I'm still in good shape with over 10K of various primers.
Just started using some of the S&B primers, and they seem to be just fine. OP didn't say what flavor he found at that price. I've not seen them come back down much like 22's have. Some LGS still have them marked at $39.99, and they can keep them.

Anywhere betw $25 and $30 per thousand for primers is a decent price these days. The lower the better of course, but a dollar or two /per 1000 difference isn't going to break my shooting habits any.
.. I don't load the multiple thousands of metalic rounds at a time like some of you either. So there's that to consider.

10,000 is my reserve for any primer I us a lot of. For me that is SP & LP. When I get to 10K, I buy another 5K minimum.
