Fired some .38spl reloads using 200 grain cast LFP bullets.

Weapons used were:
1. S&W Model 60 (no dash) 2"
2. S&W Model 64 2"

powder used:
3.6 grains Unique
3.7 Bullseye

Range was 3, 7, 15, and 25 yards.

Both loads shot to POA and were very accurate

The Unique seem to be a mite better than the Bullseye.

Recoil was not excessive. Felt like a 158 grain standard load.

I find that very interesting. I have a number of J & K frame snubbies. Do you (or anyone else) have any estimate of a 2" velocity?

Just remember that this load was intended to yaw at impact[before Hp bullets] to increase damage.
Do Not increase speed [above 700fps] as the bullet will become MORE
stable [aka no yaw] .
In this case less is better.

Don't know the velocity, but when I was a kid, and living at home, my mother got me a box of 200 grain LRN's for Christmas as a stocking stuffer. Shot them out of a 3 inch model 36 with snow on the ground, and I swear I could see them traveling to the target. I had the impression they were not much faster then if I had launched them out of my wrist rocket slingshot.

Maybe 650 fps with the Unique load? See the article in this link:

Figure about 100 fps or a little greater decrease in velocity when going from 6" velocity to 2" velocity. 675-700 fps would be about tops with a 200 grain bullet in a snub nose gun. A +P load would do a little better but the practical difference wouldn't be enough to matter.

...3.7 grs Bullseye under the 200 gr bullet seems too hot for 38 Spl in my opinion. I would opt for 2.7 grs Bullseye with that bullet weight. 3.5 grs Unique worked well for me also.

Last year I messed with some leftover 200 gr LRN (Lyman design). Unique let me duplicate approximate factory velocities of around 700 f/s in a 4 inch barrel with 3.55 gr (avg). Alliant published loads: 3.6 gr Unique Max for standard pressures, 3.7 gr for +P.

Changing over to HS6 (I started at 5.1 gr and worked up. 5.1 gr=765 f/s) got the velocities up to over 800 f/s but the POI went from about 2 " high at 25 yards with the Unique loads to 5". I do believe the low velocities of the 200 gr loads were to keep POI pretty much the same as the 158 gr LRN.

You're right, that 3.7 Bullseye load is too hot for a 200 grain bullet.
