Cast bullets that have lost their lube
Sorting through my reloading supplies I came across a box of 500-600 45 ACP bullets which the lube seems to have runn oft. For you O Brother fans. I don't want to recast them so I'm trying to decide if I should try Liquid Alox or run them through my lubrisizer. I think they were stored in the top of a friends barn and got a little warm at some point. What say ye?

What ever you want, if you have both, tumble lube with X-lox from WLL or Lee brand. It would be easier. If you do not have liquid lube, then save the expense and use your lube sizer you already have. In either case, one is not "more better" than the other.

The best way would be to use you lubrisizer and lube them conventionally. The Lee Liquid Alox would probably work fine, but what a mess that stuff is to work with.

I bet that was my barn. If so the old lube was Lyman Alox. and you're probably better off with a better lube than they had!

If the lube has completely melted away, liquid Alox will do the job.If the old lube has partly melted away(some still left in the groove)then relube with the lubri sizer;an unbalanced bullet is never a good thing so better put lube all aroung the little pill.

I have used liquid Alox and it’s easy draw an X over the open box of bullets With the Alox then close the box and shake it up good. And pour the bullets over a sheet of waxed paper and leave them for about 48 hrs to dry. That’s it Once dry load them and shoot them.
Don’t go too heavy with the Alox a little goes a long way. It’s easier if you work with a half box at a time.

Just re-lube with Alox and go shooting!

Yeah, these are some you gave me and are probably 30 years old. Only hint of lube is a little dry, grey residue. I'm thinking of wiping them with alcohol before lubricating just to get this trace residue off no matter which lube I go with. Pretty sure they are from the old Lee 230 gn HP mold.
