Default An Afternoon Well Spent

I had the house to myself most of the day and decided to spend it loading some .357 magnum. The brass was already prepped, cleaned and primed....just needed to drop powder, seat and crimp.

I was loading for my Uberti 1873 carbine using 7.0 grains of HP-38 under a Zero 158gr. JSP bullet. The brass is mixed headstamps with Winchester SPP.

I haven't run these over a chronograph yet, they are easy on me and the carbine while yielding good accuracy. Glad I didn't opt for doing something fun like mowing grass.

We've been tuned in to the same station, so to speak. I finished up on 100 .41 Magnums this evening before dinner, while I was tumbling a couple hundred .357/.38 Spl. brass. After dinner, I fished out the .tumbled brass, sized and deprimed it, then sorted the .38 from the .357. I decided I'm only going to load .357 from now on, I have two of them I shoot regularly and hardly ever shoot my .38's any more, too much refiguring on the seating die when I try to do both. Bagged up the .38 brass and threw it in a drawer. I'll go back to the bench in the morning and load up a couple of different .357's. I've got some 125 and 158 JHP's. I'll do medium power loads on the 158's, but do some full power 125's, they're fun to shoot from the M28. I quit shooting any 125's from the M19.

Hair Trigger, we are on the same wave length apparently. I will start loading .41 magnum for my model 58 now that I'm finished these. 7.0 grains of Unique under a 215gr. Bayou Bullets SWC, Starline brass and Winchester LPP.

These have just enough "get up and go" without being unpleasant to shoot.

Once a year I treat myself to a prairie dog hunting trip and producing the amount of .223 that I require isn’t a small task, so I really like to get it done shortly after I return.

My work has been HEAVY throughout the pandemic and I don’t have a lot of free time for leisure activities. Just the same, I got all my ammo for pre-trip sight in and adjustment and all the food for hunting ready for the next trip which happens in 11 months.

550 rounds, add to the 200 rounds I brought back from the trip this year. I’m ready!

What kind of MV do you expect from that load? I'm using Starline brass also, we probably get it from the same place (Everglades Ammo)? Who else do you know of other than Starline makes brass for the .41M? I'm using Lil'Gun and H110 fo my loads, since I had it on hand.

Hair Trigger, this is a light shooting load for paper punching. It doesn't require a lot of powder, it is an accurate load out of my 58 and it doesn't punish these tired old hands of mine.

When I do load magnum loads I use either 2400 or H110 with a Hornady 210 gr. XTP bullet. Hornady and Remington make .41 magnum brass, it's a little pricey if I remember correctly.

I buy directly from Starline and recently bought some from Graf & Sons.

Nice. I always feel somewhat “accomplished” after I get a good reloading session in.

Nice to see people getting out to shoot some of the ammo that they have loaded.

Reno town is having a hot spell in the 90 to 98's and I am staying home and hoping that things cool down.
With August coming, I don't think it is going to get any cooler.
