Picked up a new Rossi in .45 colt. Checked my stock of reloaded .45's. Ran 9 loaded shells from magazine through chamber (Rossi has a safety that keeps the hammer from hitting firing pin, and did it with rifle pointed in safe direction, with all 4 fingers in loop and thumb tucked in away from trigger).

Satisfied they functioned well in carbine, kept one out for a OAL gauge, then reloaded 100 for a range trip.

Somehow my gauge round ended up in pants pocket which went through our low water usage washer. Found round before pants made to dryer.

Was going shooting that day, so decided to shoot it out of a 4" barreled revolver as last round of day, so if squib, could just bring it home and push out of barrel.

Fired just like all the rest-no difference in POI or sound of round, so water did not get to components.

Don't know if the low water usage washer made a difference, but I was kind of expecting some type of low-misfire.

the press fit seals when ammunition is assembled is a lot more water tight than people give it credit for.

I have had the same thing happen to me one or two or three or four times. I did the same thing you did. They all went BANG except one, which was in for a long, heavy duty hot wash with my grubby yard work clothes.

Low water machine would make no difference. Once it’s under water, it’s under water. It might make a difference once if it was going down meters and more pressure was applied.

I’ve had rounds make it through dryer and still work. I was surprised at how well it’s sealed. This was with 9mm reloads and I just use hot soapy water to clean dirty cases.

I couldn't begin to guess the number of rounds I have laundered through the decades. All have gone "BANG" when fired.

Seems I recall somewhere that this was one of the big selling points of early fixed cartridges...

Water pressure is 44 lbs/sq in at 100 ft depth! That is .44 PSI at 1 ft depth! Your 45LC has less area than 1 sq in! IF the water depth in your washer is 1 ft(?) your cartridge had less than .44 psi exerted on it(not much) I would be more concerned about the coating on your powder, which controls the burning rate, being effected due to the tumbling action. This effect is worst on a cartridge that is less than full! This brings new meaning to the term "squib load" !

Ammo is a lot more water resistant than people give it credit for. If high humidity ruins your ammo, you have lousy ammo.

Duman444, lets talk about your 92.

Lay 10 rounds, base to nose, along the tube magazine tube. If you have more tube than ammo (like my 1990's 92 dose) you can make it a 10 shot mag. You may need to trim both the plastic ammo follower and the magazine spring by 3 or 4 inches, but you can make 10 fit.

My 92 and my Marlin 1894 CB are both in the longer Colt chambering, but both of my rifles will accept, feed (without a jam), completely chamber, and fire the 45 S&W Schofield rounds. That will add 1 to 4 rounds total, depending on which magazine length your rifle is.

Just a little info, so you get the most "enjoyment" out of your rifle!

I could get the little 9 shot Marlin 357's to hold 10 357's and 11 or 12 38's, but never could get them to work with 38 S&W or 38 Special Wadcutters! (always fed two rounds!)

Ivan, was working off memory on how many I loaded into mag. Just loaded 10 into mag and an 11th round is only 1/2" away from loading. This is the carbine 16" barrel rifle and I bought it used, however the guy I bought it from said it had never been fired and there was no evidence of powder residue in gun, so I tend to believe him.

Wonder if I could do your mod to get the 11th to fit? would be getting closer to "The Rifleman" (I know sound was dubbed and will never get to that level)

Interesting story, my Alma Mater Texas A&M, the baseball team, plays the rifleman opening clip every time the pitcher strikes out an opposing hitter.

I knew Chuck Connors had been a West Coast League pro pitcher. did he play for A&M?

You cab most likely get the 11th round, by modifying for the Colt cases, OR likely the 14 or 15th round for Schofield length cases. The shorter cases are easily loaded to 45 ACP power!

AFAIK, Chuck never played for A&M, just something they put on the big screen. An in person game at Blue Bell Park is always fun. They reserve 3/4" of the seats for season tickets (and they are usually half full), but the 1/4" filled by the students makes enough noise for the whole park.

Clean brass is a good thing.
