Primer Shipping Rules Change?
As I recently browsed the sites of my list of ammo suppliers, I was pleased to discover one that wasn't gouging on prices. And then I found that they had primers in stock! So, I ordered some large rifle primers and a few boxes of ammo. The order went through and I got a confirmation that the order would be ready for curb-side pickup in one day.
Say what? This was a vendor in Maine; I am in Washington state. It was supposed to be a free shipping situation! And I fired off an email PDQ to point out their error.
A couple of days later I received 2 emails and a phone call. It appears that they stopped shipping primers because of a recent change in shipping regulations that were too onerous to comply with. Consequently, to get primers you had to go in person to the store in Kittery, Maine.
They were very kind about it all, but their hands were tied by the regulations. So, I got my ammo but not the primers (too far to drive from the west coast to the east coast).
This is the first time I have run into this issue. I hope it doesn't ripple through other suppliers.

I did a quick google "primer shipping regulations" and saw nothing new. Haz Mat fees apply and some vendors charge extra "handling fees" for powder and primers, but I didn't see anything new. But many states have their own regulations and some as bad as CA where a back ground NICS check is required for ammo and probably powder and primers (I was able to escape CA so I'm not 100% up to date on the crazy laws inflicted on firearms owners.)...

Their 'shipping regulations' is a euphemism for 'store policy'.

If it's Kittery Trading Post in Maine..
any of their primers have the following listed (I swiped this one from their Winchester Small Pistol primer ad):
WSP - Small Regular Pistol
More Info
This item cannot be shipped and is available for online purchase with in-store pickup only.
But any primer listed has the same 'Can't ship it' statement even though the pictured ad states :
'Free Standard Shipping on Qualifying Orders over $82.00! (Details)'
I guess primers just don't 'qualify'.
It would be kind of a long drive just for primers...

Just a few weeks ago was going to buy a gun off member from NY. Glad I PMed him first because it seems there is transfer fee when you sell gun where he lives. Price of gun plus transfer of sale, shipping and another transfer on my end, killed the deal. The shipping regulations are crazy on guns, ammo and components. I think a lot of it is back door anti gun policy by political activist. They try to make things so miserable people will just opt out of shooting.

I was online last night checking out some bullet component vendors and ran across a couple (sorry, don't recall which ones) that said, "no shipping to CA..." and several other states (like the People's Republic of MA).

It is the bureaucratic solution to gun control. Just make the rules as painful or as confusing as possible and many just give up in frustration. Kind of like how the ATF banned bumpstocks: just redefine the definition of a 'machine gun' in the rules to include bumpstocks... instant ban unless you are willing to jump through all of the class 3 rules.

I think some things are legalized as a Trojan Horse. They hope things like Shockwaves would catch on as Hood Rat favorite. Anyway they can get their foot in the door.

I just received a shipment of 3000 large pistol primers an 4 pounds of powder. No issues.
I’ve noticed exactly what was indicated here that many suppliers are saying “pickup at store only.”
I was searching the internet Last night for small pistol primers and found several suppliers with them. One I placed an order and before I actually placed it I noticed the company was in Canada. Oops! Don’t want to get into shipping primers internationally. Anyway I found several Canadian suppliers with plenty of primers. Is this a US only phenomenon?

Are you saying that NY requires them to ship from a dealer to a dealer? Be Safe,
