Default Bulk buys - looking for a how to

Understanding that now is not the time, but when the supply situation stabilizes, where and how do you set up a bulk buy of say, small pistol primers?

I get my primers now at the local Sportsmans warehouse. I would think a big box retailer would be the worst place to try to arrange something like this. How small of an order would still qualify for a pricing discount? Is 10K in the ballpark or do I need to get with some folks and get to the 100k level before realistically going down this road?

In "Normal Times", I can get primers from a local source for $25-$30/1,000. Don't know if things will get back to that kind of "Normal".
I usually buy when on sale, when there is free shipping or free HazMat. Don't think I've ever bought more than 10K at a time, being on a fixed income has drawbacks :-( Others here may have better info, just give them a chance to chime in. :-)

10K of any size of primer is not a bulk purchase!

A bulk buy is in huge quantity or a large dollar amount. One of the shops I use gets in W209 primers for a reloading event. They buy 5,000,000 primers and sell out within the 7 days.

8 of us had a arrange with a local gun store. In general we ordered our reloading components together in the late winter /early Spring. this is everything I need for the next calendar year! The orders were in standard packaging (5000's of a primer; 1000 or 5000 of a projectile; 8 pound kegs of powder) He would figure our price, and we would pay then! Then Delivery would be in October or November. If he had ordered primers for a big event (like Camp Perry), ours were part of that order. If he didn't retail ours at that time, he would deliver them!

I typically have an open 5000 of each primer, and a reserve 5000. Between different brands and different sizes, I stock 7 types of metallic and 2 types of shotgun primers. (Fed 205M, 210M, 215M, WSP, WLP, WLR, & Rem 7 1/2) plus I keep 10K to 20 K of CCI primers in several sizes just for small projects! (Can't get enough BR2 & BR4 primers!)

Bullets: my cast handgun bullets are from different venders, My rifle Match, jacketed bullets are usually bought for 2 years from now. Usually one or two K of each one. (2 sizes of 30 cal, 1 size 338 cal, 3 sizes of 22 cal. In addition; I split 1000's of several different 6mm, 6.5mm, and 7mm with others in the 8 guys)

Over at Castboolits.Com, They have open group buys all the time for molds and other equipment, you could see if they do primers (but the Haz-mat fee will eat you alive!)

Ivan

I buy primers on sale from Midway, Graf and Sons, Powder Valley, etc in lots of 10K-20K and believe I save enough on shipping and hazmat to make it worth while. Have the patience to wait for sales.

When the prices were normal myself and two friends would order 45-60k at a time and split it three ways . That would barely last us a year .
