Unhappy FINALLY CAUGHT UP TO ME

Well, this shortage **** finally caught up to me. With 7 guns in .38 S&W, I have been shooting this caliber a lot this Summer. Just for a lark, as I expect my last order of 8 weeks ago to arrive any day, like maybe next week, I thought I would work up my next order. Forget it. Missouri Bullets are not even listing my coated. 361 bullets. With my coming order I will be down to my last 2500, including what I already have loaded. Might be time to conserve a bit. If there is a good thing about this, I shoot less in the Winter, so maybe by Spring this will all subside. I WILL keep checking. All isnt lost however- I DO have plenty of 38 lead SWC I can use if I am put to it but I really dont want to.

Its all relative to how much you shoot and how many shoot with you. My Friend said in an almost depressed way he was down to his last 1500 9mm. Seemed like a lot to me and he says its enough for one more Ccw class. Like me, I ran out of 9mm in like...may. My cz75 is a safe queen now.

Since I carry snub nose revolvers, I recently bought a snub nose .22. I've had it to the range my last three trips. Good way to practice while conserving my .38 reloads. .22 is still not impossible to find.

I have shot less ammo during the last few visits to the range. Somehow i have been having fun and learning to be a better shot.
Just finding good in the moment

Some have one, others do not- those that do stay prepared to keep it. At three boxes a week of a given caliber, and thats 100 round boxes, they dont last that long. These pages are full of those who are ill prepared, of under prepared. Its just one choice. I choose to stay prepared and keep my skills up. On my attorneys advice. Lets not take this to a brew-ha-ha.

I've really curtailed amounts I shoot, and like another poster above I've dusted off 22's and use them to fill in. (I think we all still remember the Great .22 Disappearance, I bought ahead a little after that cleared up.)

Shooting the 317 is an easy way to improve my 637's trigger.

How do you measure your skills? What skills do you measure? Inquiring minds want to know.

I am seeing some 9mm back in some of the gun shops around here now but the price is up. I make my own so I didn't buy any but it was available. I noticed 380 auto was the one they had very little of. All I saw of that was +P.

In the past 6-7 months, I've been to an outdoor range 3 times. Run by DNR, pistol range is 25 yards, NO holstered handguns. NO double taps, etc. Makes it hard to train, basically shoot from standing or from bench.
With minimum range time/trips, I'm conserving my ammo.
Spending my time at home with my wife and our 2 beagles until things settle down. Love being retired! :-)

After the next election, you have three years to stock up. Do so. We've pretty much been doing this since Slick Willy.
Archery is a great alternative.

The wife said to me the other day, "Why don't you sign up for a class or two?" Great idea! So, I checked out available classes. All that I found required 200-500 rounds for the class (BYOB). So, I went shopping. Results = Nada. $1,000+ for a case of 9mm FMJ range ammo??!?
Well, I can just reload a mess of 9mm for a class... wait, what do you mean there are no SP primers available? I found brass, bullets, powder, but no primers! The only primers out there are shotgun and 50BMG.
And so it goes...

I load my own too, but I'm seeing some 9mm around here for $400-450 a case. And SPP are starting to pop up. People were asking 100K for primers. Now I'm seeing them down to $60.
I know a guy that bought 10K Small Rifle for 75K and he doesn't reload. Was hoping to turn a quick buck. Been sitting on them over a month. Can't get his money back. I think its gradually coming around

I'm down to my last 3 cases of 22 LR, yes I mean I have 15,000 rounds of 22 LR sitting on the shelf that I bought in 2004/2005 with my WalMart spousal 10% discount card before it expired because of a divorce. Buy when the sun is shinning.

EDIT 10/18/20: I went browsing the corner primer stack. Behark & Behold ! ! ! Two full cases (10K of small pistol primers.
I can still load 38 Spl and 9 MM. Who said "Plan ahead doesn't work?" It was 2008 and the doubters said I was wasting my money.

It's all relative. If you rarely shoot, a thousand rounds sounds like a lot, but I was in the habit of going to the range once a week and sometimes twice. A typical range trip was several hundred rounds spread across three calibers.

I do still have about 8k rounds and components on hand to make a couple thousand more. Maybe that's a lot to some people but not to me, since there is no way of knowing how long the shortages will last.

And so I've gone into conservation mode . I still shoot once a week but have put a limit of 120 rounds combined on myself till I see supply improving.

I didn't have a big stockpile of .22 LR going in as I've only gotten into shooting recently so I can't do that. The prices on .22 right now are about the same as what I can reload my centerfires for and availability is almost as bad. I refuse to pay $.16/round for .22 LR which is about as cheap as I've seen it lately.

At my current rate of consumption I'm good for about a year if I can't buy any more components, and I do still occasionally find some, so hopefully I can ride it out.

I have 8k of 9mm ammo. About 7k is target ammo. I also load 357, 10mm, 45, and 44mag. It is relative to your shooting habits. My 9mm is about 110 rounds per week on brass that get reloaded weekly. I alternate between 357, 10mm, and 45. I shoot all about equally well. That brass will sit until I get a fifth gallon of them then it is reloading time.

22LR? Minimal usage. I am reloading 9mm cheaper than I can replace 22Lr.
