Default Odd .308 round

I know this is not reloading but can anyone identify this case.
It is a .308 LC 71 headstamp with the small circle and cross

it has 6 small holes on the shoulder, I picked it up at the Yakima Firing Center back in the mid 80's

It is used as a sub-caliber cartridge for a recoiless rifle, usually a tracer round is used. The holes is the neck are created when it is fired, venting excess gas top the rear to match the ballistics of the RR round... and causing a truly horrendous noise!

Thanks, thats what I was thinking as I picked up a few .50 BAT cases as well. must have been a firing line for a RR range.
