Default Shortage caught me-Kind of

So, only shotgun reloading I do any more is for Dove hunting. Before recent shortage-worked out cost of shot, powder, primers and wads were putting me at about $6 a box for 1 1/8 oz loads primarily the shot cost.

Academy has 1 1/8 ox Remington heavy dove loads on sale at beginning of season for a dollar more than I reload. Not really worth the effort, so when I ran out of primers with 26 lbs. of shot left, I figured I would pick up 400 shotgun primers when they came back in stock and finish out my shot then sell or give away my reloading equipment.

Fast forward to today when my local gun store owner called me to ask if I could reload his friend into 12-13 shells. Sure I can load your friend a box, heck I have box of brand new shells I will give him. NOOO-don't reload him a box, reload his ashes into 12-13 shells that his friends are going to shoot at their favorite skeet range.

So, now I am breaking open existing reloads and removing about 15-18 7.5 shot and adding a small amount of remains.

Don't know the man, just doing a favor the guy who gets me good pricing on guns.

For the last several years I've been able to buy 12 and 20 gauge skeet and trap shells for about what I can load 'em for and I don't have to spend any time at the loading bench.

I shoot a little more than 100 rounds a week at the air base shotgun range, so not reloading saves me some time which I can use for other endevours... like loading rifle and handgun ammo.

I still load 28 and 410 as factory ammo for those gauges is pretty expensive.

My friend Kip asked me that if he goes first, would I help his wife shoot his ashes out of a cannon over the Columbia River. I said sure!

A friend recently sold his mortuary and crematorium. No way would I shoot what comes out of the crematorium in my gun. Bone, steel and random chunks of tooth crowns.

Don’t think there is such a thing as human ashes. The brittle bones are ground in a stainless blender until powder. This is what’s called the ashes. The metal joint replacements are thrown in a bucket..... and no the scrapyard will not buy them.... don’t ask; just don’t!

I can confirm, what they call ashes is definitely more calcium like than ash from burning wood, cigarettes, etc. Probably bone chips as you say.

Consistency of very coarse sand. Some bone chips/ashes/deceased material was just a bit smaller than the 7.5 shot-more like a 9. Most were a lot smaller than that.

Did not find any gold or metal.
