Where can I get a powder measure like that? Never mind, I overlooked the fact that I'd have to feed him.........

Amazing, some back alley shop and THEY have Primers! Funny how we see guys sweating over getting their powder charges down to +/- 1/10 of a grain and they seem perfectly happy to fillerup. I'm also guessing that NO SMOKING in the area is not stringently enforced.

Thanks for sharing. Just wow I wonder how do they knock out those berdan primers so quickly.

I started loading in 1979 on the basement floor with a Lee Loader. My brass was Winchester and Boxer primed. I never got the hang of decapping Berdan primed cases, but their de-priming guy is pretty darn quick!

I never saw a FL sizer of any sort, so function in their AK's may well be spotty!

I wonder if these guys debate the merits of steel case ammo, and if that drill press chuck was contoured to the bullet ogive. With no seating die it's not likely they're crimping necks on rounds bound for an automatic weapon. Something tells me this reloaded junk is not the good stuff for their best fighters. They obviously have loaded ammunition to start with, so the trainees get the precision reloads.

When I started my mechanic apprenticeship my supervisor told me that a good mechanic can work and will be successful with the tools he's got at hand. So if that's all they have and it works for them, more power to them.

I thought the same thing. In one frame, it appears as if the case only has 1 flash hole.

It looks primitive, but the fundamentals are all there.

The Berdan primers are being removed with the nail method:
Puncture the cap with a nail, then use leverage a la bottle opener.
Oh, the dimple in the middle of the primer pocket is the anvil, not a flash hole.
Another method (not shown) is to partially fill the case with water, then use a tight fitting punch and hammer. The hydraulic pressure knocks the old Berdan primer right out.
In fact, if you clean and dry the old primer, and tap out the firing pin dent, you can actually reprime the primer if you make your own compound!

The cases are probably sized before depriming. There'd be no grip on the new bullet otherwise.

The powder is being measured with a tubular powder dipper in the guy's hand. It is an accurate method. Probably better than the ****** Lyman no. 55 powder measure I ditched 30 yrs ago!

Bullet seating with the drill press and mandrel: keep in mind that with the average hunting grade die sets, the bullet and case are no more supported until the bullet is fully seated.

I usually recommend new reloaders get a Lee Loader to start with. Learn the fundamentals and, even with simple tools, get great results.

The sack of powder reminded me that when Bruce Hodgdon started his business after WWII, he sold milsurp 4831 powder in paper bags, 35 cents a pound!!

This reminds me when I read Pondoro and John Taylor wrote of the natives smashing chunks of iron into musket balls to load into home made muzzle loaders. Nothing was measured, and they felt invincible facing dangerous game. Some people have the best luck.

Not sure they could use that method as they looked pretty parched to me.

I think they are making their own primers,,or better said reusing the old fired ones.
Being Berdan type, it looks to me like they are punching them out of the fired case through one of the flash holes. Then flattening the firing pin strike from the inside w/a flat punch.
With no anvil in the Berdan primer they are simply refilled with a suitable home-made blend of primer mixture.
Percussion type mixtures are really no secret. I think the trays with the primers dropped into the blind holes is for holding them while the wet primer mixture is spread across them and wiped even. Then left to dry.

I don't think Graffs ships to Darra.

An unused Drill Press makes a wonderfull single stage reloading press.
LEE take note.

During the Soviet/Afghan War, desperate Afghan rebels were reported to use 303Brit ammo reloaded with powder made from a mix of finely chopped old movie film and most likely some BP.
The source of the film?/,,never mentioned in the magazine and one NatGeo program I saw.
The film is a nitro cellulose base and is very flammable. Contained and boosted with some BP it probably would make a usable propellant.
Anything's better than throwing rocks.

Interesting video,,thanks for posting.

Is Darra a neighborhood in Minneapolis?

Seem to be getting the job done though.
