223 Bullets
I was on the Cabela's site yesterday and they had Berry's 55 gr FMJs in stock...So I ordered a 1000. Supposedly been shipped so we'll see. Has anyone used 'em? If so are they alright? Out of stock now. Sheesh

Right now you take what you can get since they are virtually unobtanium.
Just curious, but what did you pay per piece for them?

As I said never used 'em. so I figured what the heck..Paid $109/ 1M...I think that was high but even reload 223s are going for 60 cents a round locally. It will give me enough bullets to load 6000 rounds

Not the Berry's 223's but I loaded up 600 subsonic 300 Blackouts with Berry's 220 grain plated FMJ. They are below average compared to a premium Jacketed bullet. For short range plinking rounds in am AR, they should be fine. For longer varmint/target rounds, meh.

Are these double struck plated or "jacketed"?
It will be interesting to see the accuracy beyond 100 yards if plated!

I've tried the Berry's 55 gr and they're very inconsistent in weight and cannelure placement. They were minimally accurate but as things stand right now they would be better then nothing.

As a dedicated bullet caster, I once considered getting into swaging. Corbin sells dies to make inexpensive .223 jacketed bullets out of spent .22 rimfire hulls. They're pretty pricey (@$800 I think) but if I shot a lot of jacketed .223 I would seriously consider it. I don't, most of my .223 is fired from my bolt action, and cast works just fine. I just don't shoot the AR much at all, but I gave up getting cast to work in it. I know others have enjoyed great success, but not I.
Let us know how the Berrys work out. I too have never used them, but I've seen them for sale places.

Well the last 1000 Hornady's I saw sold for 185 dollars a couple months ago..So I figured I would try these. I guess we will see if and when I get them. Thanks for the replies. I will report on 'em one way or the other. From what I understand they are made the same way that Speer makes some of their bullets

Bullets
I actually got the bullets at Cabela's today. Opened one box and weighed about 10..all were within a 10th or so of 55 gr. The cannelure is a little light but I'll see how they load and shoot soon. Pics below....I hope

Loaded 10 of them with CFE 223. middle of the load range and they shot about like Remingtons ...so ordered another 1000. I even got them cheaper and quicker....also got 1000 115 gr 9mm bullets...mainly for trading stock as I haven't loaded 9mm in a long time...but I can if necessary...esp after we see what happens in the near future

In these supply troubled times, it is always nice to have a small stockpile!

That is a very similar loading to my IMR4227 for subsonic Blackout load with the Berry's 220 gr plated, and I'm thinking about 2 cents a bullet cheaper than retail at Cabela's!

I am pretty happy that I jumped on a widener’s special online 10 months ago. Picked up 4,000 Wolf 55 gr FMJ bullets for $204 + shipping. They aren’t match quality hollow points but aren’t that far behind the Hornady FMJ’s. They go nicely with the 5K Remington 7 1/2 primers I ordered from Midway for $143.45 + $30 shipping and haz mat.
