Flintlocks are not "firearms" by law. Have one delivered to your door along with a boolit mold & a few pounds of powder & yer GTG!

In your state maybe but many states are smack into draconian, defacto gun control. Mag limits, ammo & gun buying restrictions, registration, none of which was around much in the early 70s.

Hard to make ammo without primers. I know a coulle small ammo guys, no primers for them either.

I can only come up with a couple of crazy scenario's where it might be worth it but when confronted with those scenario's a bag of primers won't make much difference.
I looked at a few auctions and said, 'No thanks.' I didn't see any that were close to reasonable and someone would probably outbid you anyway.

Ladies and gentleman the party is over for cheap ammo. Gun Sales in 2020, OVER 20 MILLION SO FAR. There are over 458 Million firearms in America. You can drive a BMW/RR but if you ain't got gas!!!! Just saying.

Yup, don't need to have much gun control if you can't use it for anything but a paperweight.

I think many new owners just think these "are" the usual prices for ammunition/reloading components. Heck, they've never had to purchase these items before now...

Sort of. If you buy a new gun & ammo is over priced, you buy it because the gun is useless without the ammo. The silver lining is most of the new gun owners will only shoot 1000rds in their lifetime. They bought their guns as insurance, not to actually use.

Most of the new gun owners will sell their gun in a yard sale when this panic/ scare is over. It will be over at some point. I don’t know why people would want thousands of rounds for handguns if they feared social problems. Rifle and shotguns work better in these situations. If you are afraid you won’t get anymore you won’t need it anyway. Most that have a good many guns are loaders, shooters and hunters. You more or less end up stocking up when price is right. We don’t have to buy in panic mode. I was at gun show past weekend. Ammo galore and the hunch back club was in full force. Tables full of the foreign stuff at near 1000% markup on some.

While I buy shooter grade I can appreciate the collector mentality. To have and to preserve a piece of history in mint condition is something that would bring a smile to my face.
I used to build custom furniture and loved to patronize museums which held collections of Colonial to 19th century furniture. While some had obviously seen hard use there were those built by the Boston, Philadelphia and other master craftsmen in mint or near mint condition that were absolutely stunning examples of the Art of working with wood.
The used pieces displayed the effects of history on the piece itself and each mark caused me to imagine the places the piece had been and who might have owned it.
If I could have been able to buy a mint piece I would have but I wouldn't use it either.

The same mob mentality is driving prices on ammo & components. There is no better way to vote than with your buck. Don’t by overpriced goods. People are nuts, what do they think they are going to do with thousands of rounds of ammo? Think about it, a vote put us where we are today.

Not sure how you base this statement. Look at all the states with mag restrictions, AR restrictions, ammo restrictions, etc. None of which were in place in 1970. So pretty restrictive depending on which state you live in.

To somewhat put this all into perspective of the market today, I was watching a box of 1000 small Federal match primers on GB. I wasn't bidding, just watching. There was no starting price, but there was a Buy It Now price of $200.00. Things were gradually moving upwards in price to about $100.00 far short of the $200.00 to $300.00 1000 primers are now bringing. Just prior to the auction closing at about $100.00 some meathead jumps in and hits the Buy It Now button for $200.00. I guess I don't understand why he didn't play the auction a bit and see if he could buy them cheaper. If it got close to $200.00 then hit the BIN button. Another case of more money than brains. Obviously there is way more than one born every minute.

Not defending the buyer. One of the high bidders may have bid close to that and the buyer kept trying to get over his bid. Once he got high enough he just hit the buy it now button.

At any rate, it makes me look at the 40K primers that I have on hand and smile!!

Apparently Mr. Methhead felt $200 was a good enough price.

We can’t answer this question, only these buyers can.

Many thoughts, random.
Yes I have more money than brains. College degree and a life time of knowledge helped me make that money so I can afford what I want. I don’t apologize for that.
Do I dislike paying excessive (gouging) prices, yes, but I will if it allows me enjoy myself.
My dog died a few months ago, the savings in vet bills will pay for a lot of ammo.
Went to Vegas few years ago. We spent about $200 to see Blue Man group. The show lasted about two hours, loved it. We took $200 and headed to the casino, had fun for about two hours. Both were great entertainment. I could easily spend $200 in two hours at the range, maybe just can’t shoot as many rounds in those two hours.
If you truly can’t afford to shoot at today’s prices then don’t. Suck it up, good times will be back.
Thankfully I still have maybe six months of supplies left so I’m hoping like everyone else things will get better. I’m looking forward to them as much as all of you.

Well, the last job I had was in California, and I then transferred to Texas to take another Ranger job. If you don't like it where you are, then move already...

Oh, and that CA job I left was in Yosemite NP as a Ranger. Not a bad job at all, but I really like my freedom here in Texas.

So you admit your original statement was incorrect, obvious by deflecting with the ole texas BS. Your state is rapidly approaching purple. Just look at houston & austin. There are more restrictions now than ever before on guns & ammo in the US as a whole, even in Texas. If you thnk Biden wont push hard for more, you are soending too much time in the Texas sun.

That’s dirt cheap, except that it’s Bubba’s Mystery Reloads, the commercial sale of which which I thought was frowned upon by Big Brother.

The seller does state that the ammunition should be torn down and reloaded. He states "Before firing" to take it down. So I guess it could be argued that he is selling the components, not fireable rounds.

Yeah pretty sketchy but if its a one time deal, not a real issue.

Why will folks pay those prices ?

The answer is easy .
They weren't good boy scouts ... Not Prepared .
And ... More money than Sense .

When you have lots of money you don't have to be prepared ... you can buy everything you want when you want it .

We live in an age of excess and waste .

I started with a single stage RCBS press and ramped up after I had learned the fundamentals. When I have a problem I work it out myself W/O getting on the internet. It's sometimes very hard to help these people because they have no basic knowledge of machinery or reloading.

Needless to say, these newbies had no components on hand and are pretty frantic. Eventually some of this equipment will be on the resale market.
I was surfing the net last night and came across a for sale listing for a nearly new Dillon Precision 750 reloading press. He had some good photos of his set-up which looked near new. He's helping me prove my point above.
