Default One Shot Case Lube v. One Shot Gun Cleaner

I am temporarily out of case lube but I have some One Shot Gun Cleaner. Anyone know if I can use that as a case lube for straight wall pistol cases?

(Yes, I know I don't have to use lube with carbide dies but I prefer to)

In such a choice, I would pick a scant wipe of silicone grease, which I KNOW does not have any ammonia in it.
I would not risk spraying bore cleaner on brass. Ammonia makes brass get brittle.

I load 32's, 38's, and 44's. All carbide dies, and certainly no problem at all.

I have both but never thought of trying what you are suggesting. Since you have carbide then I think it would aid in reducing friction and be of some help. But (there’s always a but) I would be concerned about contamination so I would be sure and run them back thru my vibrating cleaner with corn cob. Still wouldn’t really advise it but if you’re desperate it may be worth a try.

For many years straight walled cartridge sizing dies have carbide inserts to eliminate the need for case lube. But many like to use a bit to make sizing easier, but not necessary. But;

There are many products that can be used as case lube that are no labeled case lube. I use Mink Oil Boot Dressing Cream, available in the shoe polish dept. of most stores. I've read about some using Pam, spray for lubing cases. Many lanolin hand creams, like Bag Balm work (used sparingly) and I've even used Chap Stick in an "emergency"/experiment. One member of another forum reported using his nursing wife's "nipple cream". Most anything that will make the case slick will work in a pinch, but I don't want to use a petroleum product (motor oil, STP etc.) because cleaning it off the brass after sizing can be a real pain...

I started out in 1965 using Vicks Vapo-Rub. It works about as well as anything else. Plain Vaseline's not bad, either. Lot's of snake oil out there but I'll bet most will work fine. I don't wipe any lube off cases, just run it through the brass machine. If you want store bought authentic case lube, Imperial works well, but I'm not sure it's any better than the ones already mentioned.

Thanks much guys. I think I'll go ahead and size dry until the Amazon truck shows up. But I do like the idea of alternatives like Vicks, etc. Seems we have some McGyvers types here.

I use carbide dies and you don't have to lube them with carbide. I will spray some one shot case lube on them because it is easy to do and makes them size a little easier but it is not necessary with carbide dies.
