Midway primer tease
Today I get an email from Midway at 6:50 am that they have large pistol magnum CCI primers in stock. I notice the email at 7 am and log on as fast as I can. The email had an "add to cart" button, so I click it, but it takes me to the same old "out of stock, no backorder" message. Either they lied, didn't have many to sell, or someone bought a truck load in a big hurry.
Then I get an email from powder valley that the powders I ordered from their web site that said they were in stock really aren't in stock. Sheesh.
This is getting old.

It would not surprise me at all if people have the bots buying ammo and primers as fast as they show up. There were news reports that a lot of the Black Friday sales went that way before people could click on them they were bought
because of the speed the bots can buy.

I don't know what a "bot" is, but I've dealt with this shortage situation at least four or five times in the last twenty-five years. I generally buy all components from Powder Valley because of their exemplary service and prices and have been doing so for thirty years or more. I try to check the website daily if I'm looking for something, but apparently many others do the same. If I find they have something in stock that's hard to get, I buy it right then because I know it will be gone quickly; it always is.
Some may get tired of this, but that's the way it is and will be for a good while.

I recently bought some 9mm bullets from RMR. Nothing in stock but they're accepting back orders. I prefer to buy a great product, from a great company at a good price and put it on back order. Just get in line and wait my turn. They say it will be 10 weeks or so, but I won't have to go searching, pouncing and missing when stock shows up on a website. I can do without the frustration.

A "Bot" is basically a computer that is set up/programed to do certain functions. In this case search different web sites in search of available components or ammo. Once it finds something it alerts the person that set it up so they can beat the rest of us to it. Or if the programmer is really good, the computer can go ahead and place an order.

Some funny business in all of the supply lines. Insider buying and reselling at huge profit margins seems likely from conversations I have had.(conspiracy theories abound)

Likely Bots buying them. This happened with the new generation PC Graphics cards made by Nvidia a few months ago. On the release date most of them were bought up almost immediately and listed on Ebay for 3x the price.
Likely affects any high-demand, low supply goods. These Bot owners can make a boat load of money.

It was verified during the last shortage, that some Wal Mart employees were hoarding ammo, and selling to their friends before the ammo went on the shelves. I think some Asst Managers were involved as well.

It doesn't surprise me that bots have gotten into the game. Not when you can buy a case for 50 and turn around and make 300 on GB.
The market is going to have to completely saturate before we see the old days again.

And this is only the beginning. This is the 2014 .22LR mega panic no.2 only this time its primers. My son told me about "bots" or "scripts" . They are search and buy programs and the same exact occurance is happening with the newest "unobtanium" PS5 gaming console, sold out everywhere, but oddly many people have 6 to 10 for sale new in the box for triple the cost of msrp. When it comes to money and greed many people are scumbags.

Bots have become the name of the game with reloading supplies, ammo, video game systems and computer components. When something becomes available, the bots immediately buy up the entire supply, then the owner of the bot computer puts the items on auction websites and gets double or triple the MSRP for the items.

I guy I work with told me his son was doing this type of thing. He has a computer program (that he bought), it finds items, he buys them and sells at a profit. He was buying sneakers and video games, this was in the summer. I haven't asked what else he can buy with the system?
I am too cheap to overpay for items...

I received a product arrival notification from MWUSA on Nov.20th at ~8:20am for 223 ammo. I missed that one(too slow). The 60-90sec that I clicked to "check" pricing, was all it took to miss out...
Anyway, I received another product arrival notification from MWUSA on Nov. 24th at 5:05pm. I was actually sitting at my PC and I was able to snag 500rd of 55JSP .223s or 10 boxes of 50 at $32.99/box in less than 30sec. Not great, but at least reasonable $0.66/round.
FWIW, odd times of the notices, and you have to be very fast.

The only thing that stops this process is when supply catches up with demand and hoarders have to “eat” the big backlog they’ve bought up. Unfortunately the process continues because there is so much profit to be made during periods of high demand.
