Am reloading about 200 range pick up Hornady .308 Winchester casings and even after running my Large primer pocket tool in the pocket it still is very tight....almost like they are still crimped in.

Anyone else have this problem?

Interesting. Black Friday was good to me, and I was able to
purchase a Carton of 270 Winchester Short Magnum
Hornady empty brass cartridges for reloading.

These Hornady's, I just got them prepared to reload, but
haven't tried them yet (still reloading the new 270WSM
Winchesters I got earlier).

I do know one thing; the Hornady's are manufactured better
than the Winchesters. The Winchester's did prime snugly
though, to me just right.

Thanks for the "Heads Up". I'll have to see what happens
when I go to Prime the Hornady's.

Have not had that problem with the Hornadys in 444.
After uniforming the (depth of the) pockets they seat primers the same as the Remington and now Starline brass.
Most of my Hornady brass comes from factory ammo but I did buy one box of emptys and they were normal.
Starline nickel plated brass is sometimes a little sticky the first time primed.
That's when I break out the primer lube.

Primer lube? Do tell....

Every now and then, a company needs to replace old worn out drill bits and things.
Those cases might be from an old wore out drill that was on its last legs and drilling "Tight" primer holes that were still within spec's.

I never had a case where the primer did not fit, on any cases, since I started back in the 1960's, be it pistol, rifle or shotgun.

Not just Hornady, but a few other mfrs. crimp their pistol case primers in. Just gotta get a pocket tool that removes it adequately. I use an RCBS swager. Seems to do the trick.

Were they CCI primers? They've always fit more snug than any other brand I've used.

As long as they seat cleanly, tight is good.

I've noticed the same thing with Hornady's 30-40 Krag brass. I ran them through an RCBS primer pocket swaging die (after scraping) and found them to require more force than even 7.62x52 NATO (crimped) brass. -S2

I have some Hornady 204 Ruger cases I bought years ago on another forum. Bought them as once fired. The had, and still have, after 3 more firings, the tightest primer pockets I ever encountered. And I remember the guys over on the 204Ruger.com Forum complaining about them also. I have 223 and 6.5 CM Hornady cases that have "regular" feel to the primer pockets.

I get it at the same store I buy my supply of asymmetric leg lengthening compound.

Back to the topic:
As stated in another thread about primers, I have always felt the tolerances for the pockets and primers are way too loose.
Unable to quickly find the CIP specs and compare them to SAMMI.
Would not be surprised if there are minor differences there along with the pressure specs.
The Ginex LPPs are slightly tighter (larger) than the CCI or WLP.

The largest LRP at .213" is going to be hell to get into the smallest pocket at .2085" and could be at least .001" proud of the pocket too.
