My Question...if you paid that much... could you afford to use them or do they fall into the category of the Capital Ship...to valuable to lose?

That sounds like a shill, bidding for the seller to jack the price up. I doubt that the primers actually sold (were paid for) for that much. But then who knows, in today's world?

If you paid that much I am not sure your metal state is good enough to own a firearm. Then again I guess there are people that have so much money $1300. is pocket change. I don't know them though.

I have no plan on selling my stash, but I could retire a whole lot earlier if I was willing to sell my bullets, primers and powder.
Have you looked at what CCI milspec small and large rifle primers are going for? Not to brag, but I have a few.
The sticker prices on my primer boxes indicate I paid anywhere between 1 and 1.5 cents per primer, depending on size, brand and year of purchase. I have a few odd single trays (100) that I bought for experimenting that were closer to 2 cents a piece.
I bet my milspec Berdan primers are better than gold! (We developed a fairly easy way to deprime impossible to find Berdan brass years ago).

If someone really did pay that amount, which is suspect, I can only assume it is someone new to reloading that doesn't know the historical prices.

I mentioned this in another thread.

An individual mentioned at a get together that he had been to the range to shoot his newly acquired Glock. I asked him what he thought about ammo prices. He replied that he had purchased 500 rounds for around $350.00. He was completely surprised when I told him the same ammo would have been less than half that price last year. He thought that was the normal cost of ammo.

So, I think there is a segment of folks that just don't have a historical perspective on ammo prices. They have expendable cash and if the price of admission is X dollars they pay it. We see it as a ripoff, they see it as normal.

Just my thoughts FWIW.

That is just about 10X what I paid for my last case of 5,000 Winchester SPP.

26 cents per primer, add a 20 cent bullet and lets say 5 cents for powder and a dime for the case= 61 cents a round. With the price of ammo some might think this is a deal.
when things were normal I was wondering how I was going to make my Dillon 650 pay for itself when I was only saving 5 to 10 cents a round. with the way things are now its like saving 50 cents with every pull of the handle, loaded up 2500 rounds and figured now its payed for

There are a lot of guys out there who would consider your weekly paycheck as "pocket money", the same as you or I might look at fifty bucks. For them, its not an issue of price, its availability and wanting it.

Or, it could be some poor sap who is now living off Ramen Noodles...

Most likely shill bid. There are a lot of professionals out there that enjoy guns and shooting. I know a couple. They do not reload. So I don’t think these people are buying the reloading components. I think people are buying whats out there for resale and or selling reloaded ammo. I hope things ease up by July. I have plenty of 22s but are close on sp primers.

I know there are people who would think of a couple thousand dollars as insignificant, but I highly doubt those folks are reloaders.

How many primers can one buy for $10 million? Asking for my friend Habib.

I think some people are betting on things getting worse before they get better. Today prices may look cheap in the near future!

I was lucky, I paid $440 for almost 3k for Remington 7 1/2. I saw people spending more than that for much less. 800 +/- for 1k. I have been lucky, I have found powder for 223 with a local gun store. Just needed the primers.

One of the guys that I shoot with just paid $250/1000 for spp. He is not wealthy by a long shot. He is afraid he wont be able to get them going Into 2021. Plenty of panic buyers out there. I am holding out for $500 per 1000, then I might sell a few.

$200/1,000 is about the going rate from what I can gather. $265 isn't that much more if it's something you need.

I don't need to load and shoot that bad.......................

I can just rip the lips on some fish for a year or two, if needed,
plus you can eat them, unlike the paper targets.

Is .26 each any worse than paying $1 per round for .380 ammo? With free range brass, .07 each for coated lead bullets, and say .02 for powder you are not in a bad place. $17.50 a box is very attractive compared to $40-50 a box for factory .380, 9mm and 38 spl. At what I paid for my components on hand I am loading for $5-6 a box but at some point I will have to figure in replacement cost. A year from now $250/k for primers may sound like a bargain. I can remover when I was around 16 and started reloading that on Friday I would buy 100 shotgun and 100 sp primers so I could shoot that weekend. I put $5 a week up to buy lead shot, wads and powder. I was making $1.65 an hour working after school. We would sit around and cast buckets of wadcutters with free wheel weights and sometimes lubed them with candle wax we stole from our mothers. We bitched about high prices back then too!

I paid ~$24 for 1k of SPP at SW not long ago, and left another brick on the shelf. Guess I should have been greedy and bought that one as well.

In June I was in Sportsman's Warehouse. I went in looking for
something, went pass the Primers, there sat only two Bricks of
CCI LP.

Needless to say I left nothing on the Shelf. Paid around $48 for
the two Bricks.

Was in Runnings awhile back. They had 10/100 count new package
CCI Large Rifle. Needless to say I took all 10. Paid $28.99.

I shoot Revolver every week, but I am really conservative with
my shooting. Started shooting .22lr and more High Power Rifle
to expand my shooting interest.

I've been set for years, and I'm set for a long time, but if I see
them, I will buy them and leave nothing.

I was following a few primer auctions on GB earlier this week, and saw a case of primers go for $1300+. With the sold prices I saw, I am afraid that it was a bona fide purchase. I followed 5 1k primer auctions, and the selling prices ran from $206/k to almost $265/K!

I don't read tea leaves and I don't have a crystal ball, but I do know, I'm NOT selling any of my primers! I may sell some cast bullets, but I am looking at the long run!

I still waste a few rounds shooting some old friends (weapons) that I haven't shot for many moons.

I've recently given away a few boxes of rimfire rounds, one box of factory Federal 30-30 rounds for a friends grandson's Christmas lever gun, some new and like new once fired brass and even some premium match rifle projectiles.

I always feel better when I'm able to make someone's day a bit better. Oh, I realize there's very few absolutes in life. As of this post though, primers on the shelf are off limits.

There was a guy here working on the central unit a few days back. He saw my reloading bench in the basement and remarked how he'd love to find some small pistol primers. I offered to give him a brick, but he refused. He said I should hold on to them. They were like gold. He didn't have any idea how many I have.

1994 AWB. Panic buying of 9mm doublestacks. Glock magazines $150 each, AR 15 mags $75.
2008 Election panic drove prices up 4X. Fortunately Bass Pro let me have 270 boxes of WWB 9mm for $4 each. Sold 50 boxes at $20 each to get the rest almost free.
2012 Newtown panic. Fortunately I had purchased half a dozen Federal AE 115 gr ball for $115/ case. I'm just finishing up those. I did get caught without 9mm SD ammo and bought exactly 1 box of Fed HST for $60. That won't happen again.
Spring 2020, USA on fire, 50% of the population hoping the other 50% die in a fire. 9mm ball $169/ case of 1,000, crickets. I only got 2K 9mm, 2K .223, and 2 cases of .22lr (10,500rds) this time because I couldn't imagine gross dishonesty on a mass-societal scale. Signs and wonders. Happy New Year. Joe

Local store had few primers and limit is 100 primers per customer. Price is also 2-3x of last years depending on the primer. I did not buy any as I was there to get field points for my arrows.

I'm starting to find those $1500 air guns not so expensive afterall!!!

I just picked these up today for $28 per 1000 at Sportsman’s Warehouse. Last week I paid $32 per 1000 for Federal Large Pistol and $34 for Federal Large Rifle Match. This past September I paid $23 per 1000 for Small Pistol x 3. All at Sportsman’s Warehouse

Reloading is a hobby for some people (including a couple I know). The point is not so much to save money, but to DIY. I recently bought a few hundred .38 spl reloads from a friend who's genuine health issues do not allow him to leave the house these days, but he likes to keep busy. His wife handed them to me on his porch, I can't see him in person. I doubt the five or ten cents a round he makes is the motivation in his case. The money is not always the main motivation... cars, stereos, firearms...

A year ago some folks thought it was dumb to reload 9mm.

November 5, 2008. The first thing I did in the morning was order 5000 Small Pistol Primers, 5000 Large Pistol Primers, 5000 Small Rifle Primers, 5000 Large Rifle Primers, and 1000 Percussion Caps. These are all being stored for future use when primers are no longer available. The primers that I use are whatever I can scrounge.


My parents always told me to plan for the future.

I'm a seller at those prices. Maybe even a grand.

I didn't think it was dumb...but it was not cost efficient at the prices of the range ammo at the time. Consider a FMJ bullet a year ago cost about a dime..5 dollars a box..primers round it off to 3 cents each...another dollar fifty and the powder lets just say 2 cents each for another dollar...wow..7.50 a box...and I actually bought factory ammo from Cabela's for that same price. So I bought 3000. I still don't load 9mm....but I can if necessary....And it is probably coming to a state near you in the near future. Me too

Yes, but I load 9mm with lead I scrounge and cases I scrounge, too. Most folks left their cases on the ground, free for the taking. I only picked up the good ones.
So I was paying $2.50/box. For me, casting and reloading is fun so I don't count labor.

I've been trying different ways to adopt small rifle primers to use in small pistol primer ammo.
I know the difference in the two .
my revolvers work great semis not so good, noticed the srp set further in the pocket than spp's, I set them a little short just enough to feel them running your finger over them.
now what happens is the firing pin drives the primer all the way in and the result is a tiny impression on the primer resulting in no detonation.
plan two, use a small amount of Loctite on the primers , result, so far it works in my m and p .40/.357 Sig and my Sig 226 .9mm

I passed on that used to get them for 37.50 at a local gun show just about a year ago

When you don't firmly seat any primers, the firing pin has to finish seating them, and that cushions the blow of the firing pin. Try fully seating some, I bet they'll work then.

Yup. I found this out to be true just the other day.

Loaded some 38's on my Dillon with brand-new brass. The pockets were still tight and I didn't seat the primers hard enough. Some were high. I thought I was too high and mighty to pull a dumb stunt like that. Had one misfire (it took two hits to go off) and a bunch of light indentations.
Good thing it was only one box and they were used for target practice.
