It Just Keep Getting Better
My Daughter-Inlaw wanted to give my #1 Son a 20 rounld box 0f .308 rifle ammo. No factory ammo available but a local Gunshop offered Her a 20 round box of reloads for $38.00 ?
If and when this "Shortage" is over, we need to remember the Shops that took advanage of these times.

I went by a local pawn shop that I regularly deal with. He sells some new ammo, and I chided him about the prices, but in reality, the market is the market....i can't fault a seller for charging what the market will bear. In six months he may be stuck with inventory bought at today's prices that he may have to sell for less than he paid for it.
We can decide to buy or not. Jimmy, if I had a box of 308s I'd send it to you.

Now that the prices are ridiculous, There have been some primers, bullets, powder, and ammo that has come out of the woodwork! (But always at ridiculous prices!)
10 or 15 years ago a friend of mine had a very good shooting 6.5x47 rifle, he developed a load that used an older/discontinued 139 grain Berger Bullet. He called the factory and ask how many boxes they had left? 167 boxes of 100, He bought them all! (they retailed at 23.00, his bulk price was much better!) 6 years later he sold the rifle. I ask what he was going to do with all those left over bullets? Just leave them in the vault, until someone wants them. Someone bought all he had left for $40 a box plus fright, and was very happy to get them.
I unexpectedly lost my job in January 2008! I went to my LGS and ask if the would buy my reserve of primers for what he could buy them for, and he agreed. I sold him 55,000 primers and used the money to heat my home for the winter. He had a sale on primers that lasted until they were gone, a total of 6 days! I still haven't built my reserve that big again!
In times of trouble, lead is a precious metal!
Yes, my friend actually keeps his components locked in a second vault!

I will definitely remember those places that more than took "advantage" of this pandemic. There are plenty other places I will be more than glad to spend my money/give my business.
Wish you were closer, I just bought 2 boxes Winchester 308 from the local Walmart; both boxes $38 + change ($17.34/box 20). I wouldn't personally buy/give reloads to any one, just my opinion

I disagree, the market is what ir is because of gun shops selling at higher prices. I would & dont buy from such shops. Sire if your cost is higher you sell higher, but generally that is not the case. These are the same shops that will complain about revenue lost to nternet sales.

Dont want to beat a dead horse to death but this is FAR if ever from over. Dont kid yourselves. If anything I see it getting worse. I saw and predicted this in 1968. I has taken awhile to get this bad but they have been chipping away for over 50 years just waiting for their chance-- seems now they have it. JMHO

That price is higher than factory ammo, is the owner insane? A 20 round box of 150 gr Superformace is only $21.99 and he is asking for $38.00 for reloads. You are correct, remember them when the prices get back to normal!

First time gun owners are victims of the shortage because of chance. Everyone else has had numerous warnings to stash ammo, save ammo. When folks have invested money for many years, they expect a return on that investment. Folks raising heck about the prices of investor ammo consider this: Would you trade a rare revolver at the price you paid 10 years ago? Why would you expect folks to sell/trade ammo at the price they paid? I paid $100 for my 1917 Colt, it could fetch $2500 today and no one would scream. (it ain’t for sale) Folks screaming for ammo yet I hear mag dumps daily! Ammo hard to find and still folks buy 20 or 50 and then shoot every round. This will pass, and yet most will still not plan/prepare for the next event. Never shoot more than half of your store bought factory ammo! Load more than you shoot/need. Don’t waste ammo.

I got an email from AIM Surplus yesterday. I didn't need anything, but looked out of curiosity. They listed cheapo Wolf 9mm 115FMJ for $25! Used to be about $10 at the most. A 1000rd case of PPU 124NATO was $600. That's $30 a box. Dang, I sure feel sorry for new gun buyers who are stuck with paying these scalper prices. Hopefully prices will come back down, but I ain't counting on it, the way thing are shaping up.

I looked at a couple of places that had .308 in stock and what I thought would be hunting ammo was $1.75-$2.00 a round and I assumed + tax and shipping. FMJ with steel case was much cheaper.
Just because someone is lucky enough too find a box at pre panic prices doesn't mean that is the current price. The current price is what you can get a box for in your area today.
Places that have it listed for $1.00 a round are out of stock. As one of my mentors would say. I'm selling new Cadillacs for $100. I don't have any right now but when I get some the price might be a little higher. Larry

Was in the garage looking in some ammo storage boxes.
I seem to be still well stocked with 270 Ammo.
But my last 270 went down the trail long ago!

All ammo has value even if you don’t own a gun for it. Try trading, that would be one fair way to adjust inventory. I will need some 30 carbine soon, I know I have ammo folks will trade. Never turn down a good price on ammo, specific need/caliber has nothing to do with logistic posturing. There are always folks shooting those ignored calibers, heck I just bought a 41 Magnum just because I did not have one....I did however check, ammo is out there at pre Covid prices. Seven day weekends require creative planning.
