Default Can the Hornady 45215 FTX 200 gr. bullet be used in 45 colt?

Family member gave these to me for Christmas and now I find these were designed as a SW .460 bullet for higher pressure and speed.
Just wanted to know if these could be used with 200 gr. or 225 gr. 45 Colt XTP load data? Have read where the copper jacket is thicker around bullet for higher pressures. Would this raise the load pressure above standard load data?

I don't see why not. The jacket may be heavier and not preform at 45 Colt velocities, but they are a good diameter and premium bullets. I'd use Hornady 45 Colt data (jacket thickness won't increase pressure)...

If you are shooting paper, steel plates or varmints, you will have no problems. If this is for bears, these will perform more like FMJ bullets, you get less expansion and more penetration that a thinner jacketed bullet. A deep hole the size of your thumb, is still a real "woopen!"

The jacket thickness has no bearing on the pressure of load, rather it determines the pressure limitation of the bullet to perform as intended.
These bullets fill shoot just fine out of 45 Colt.

You should know that Hornady make a 225 grain bullet in FTX specifically for 45 Colt. You could use the data for this bullet as a starting place for the 200 FTX you have.

Just an aside... There are 45 Colts and 45 COLTS!! By this I'm trying to distinguish between a SSA replica (of which I have one, and love to reload for and shoot!) and 45 COLTS!! that are appropriate for those RUGER ONLY-type loads. It really depends upon what you intend to shoot these out of... Uh, "from"?

In one of these (or possibly a rifle?) that 200gr FTX bullet could very likely be a winner as well if loaded to less than those extremely 460 S&W limits.

Don't have access to my Hornady book: knowing what velocities the 200gr bullet is designed for would help.

Cheers!

Hornady lists the muzzle velocity range for the #45215FTX as 900 - 2200 fps.

If it will perform at 1K, then it ought to be as easy as falling off a log at the normal 45 Colt load data? At least according to Hodgdons... Their data for the 200gr XTP exceeds 900 easily.

Cheers!
