Default S&W .308 casings

A friend of mine gave me a bag of .308 Win fired brass, in sorting them I found 3 that are marked S&W .308 Win.

Would these have been made by Alcan? If not, who?

Randy

I had a bunch or S&W 30-06 ammo back in the 70s. Might still have some empties. I have no idea who made it.

My understanding is that Alcan made the S&W ammo.

S&W purchased the Alcan "company" in partnership( I have been led to understand) with Fiocchi. Most of the ammo was loaded by Fiocchi or in the US with components supplied by Fiocchi...Even today the Fiocchi 616 shotshell primer is still the same primer as the old Alcan 220 Maxfire. S&W loaded ammo in the US too but it was almost impossible to compete with the Big 3 as many other small ammo companies such as Activ Super Vel Browning etc found out. I always considered the S&W ammo as very good stuff...and still have some left here. They were the first "mainstream" ammo company to load sabot slugs in the US...and I was a impressed user of them...
