Cool Crazy...yup.

Maybe the buyer thought that came 1000 primers and a pound of powder.

I have 15 of those in the cabinet, and 6 Lyman/Ideal 310 tools with around 20 different die sets. I am rich!

Wow is right. I only have one 9mm pistol and never reloaded for it. A month or two ago I saw where the price of ammo was going crazy so I went to my hardware store and bought the LEE 9mm dies for $35. If you think that auction was crazy go the big gun auction site and look at what people are bidding for primers.

I saw a 16ga 870 Wingmaster sell for almost $3K. An express 16 was at $2K when I quit watching it. That’s insanity. On GB.

I don't know; looking back say a year from now it may not look crazy. I do know that some of the communists have picked up on reloading and there has been discussion about Federal regulation of handloading "for our safety" don't you know.

If you think that is crazy..... you should of been watching GBer last month when not once...but TWICE...S&W Model 66 snubby revolvers sold for over $3000

One was like new in the box with all the trimmings and the other was just the revolver with nothing else.

$3200 and $3000 respectively.

That is insane.

Looks like $.40 a pop is the going rate on GB for small pistol primers at the moment.

The one I posted is not an isolated case. An older one in the cardboard box went for $160.50. An old set of steel (not carbide) RCBS 9mm dies is at $81 and there's 4 days left. That should be what? $20-$25 maybe?

If you've got anything laying around for loading 9mm that you don't need now is the time to unload it.

Is mostly just the 9mm stuff though, equipment for other calibers is high but maybe only double, not quadruple.

I bought and paid for most of my reloading and bullet casting
equipment in the late 60's and 1970's ... after 50 years I have amassed a lot of nice "stuff" .... But at this rate of these escalating prices for reloading & bullet casting equipment and tools , along with all the primers and powders I have squirreled away ... I'm worried my kids might get the idea that the old man may be worth a lot more dead than alive ... I got to be careful !

I have said this all along: These prices that we see now can not be sustained. $1 a round 9mm or 45 ammo will not last. I don't know what everyone else sees, but people around me can not afford to spend 2 or 3 hundred dollars to go shooting every week end. The new gun owners are not necessarily shooters. They are going to buy their 2 boxes of ammo, shoot half a box and put the rest in the sock draw with their new gun. The zombie preppers are going to vacuum pack their stash and store it next to their 100 year supply of wild rice. That leaves those of us who actually shoot a lot. If you're anything like me, you're rationing your supply and biding your time until things get back to reality. If I run out of bullets before sanity returns, I'll be working on my bowling game.

I noticed most of the large component retailers all show out of stock on powder. In less than 7 days it was like a switch flipped. Last component to go crazy. Interesting times ahead.

Meanwhile I will continue to reload for relaxation and going to the range.

I saw two Lee loaders sell on a local auction site the other day for over $150. At least they got two of 'em.

Was at a flea market mall locally and a guy had a booth selling ammo. Guy asked about 9mm and was told to come back next day (Monday) @ 11am and there would be some available. Out of curiosity, went back and sure enough, 3-4 different brands 9mm range ammo-at $44.95/box of 50. 45 ACP @ $49.95. Don't know where it was coming from, but had all the regular handgun and rifle calibers for sale.
I sometimes think of selling some of my ammo, but then I think "There's no place for me to re-supply". So I just stay home and watch TV or get on the Forum and pass the time :-)

I have always kept track of the costs for all my guns, reloading equipment and casting stuff. I never kept the costs of the powder and primers. With all this mess going on I think I may have to add a line item to include this stuff and the powder and primers to my net worth now. This is better than some of the stocks I have.

I was following a particular auction on flea bay that ended last night. It was for a six cavity Lee bullet mold, which can usually be purchased for about $50. It caught my eye with about 2 days plus remaining, and the bids were up to $150. The auction ended last night somewhere between 11:00 and midnight. That mold sold for $252 plus shipping! The mold was the 40 cal 175gr truncated nose mold.

To the younger guys:

Back in the olden days they had both steel dies and carbide dies for pistol calibers. The steel were not unpopular at all as they were significantly cheaper. I've bought and used them myself.

When you see these older green RCBS boxes and the label has a yellow shaded background they are just plain steel dies requiring case lubrication for use. The carbide dies had a blue shaded background.

This listing is not clear about what type of dies these are. Somebody is not going to be happy when they buy these and figure it out. In normal time these don't go for more than $20. Nobody who knows what these are would pay that much for them.

I know we all chuckle about these Lee setups, but I can tell you that my uncle loaded a LOT of ammo sitting at his kitchen table in the evening listening to the ball games with these exact tools.

The prices are outrageous, but for folks that are afraid to be left out it might end up being a good investment. I think there are people that honestly believe they have to get it now or they won't get it, so they pay what they pay. They can get more money.

Time will tell. I am 50/50 that they may be right.

For entertainment I have a search on flea bay for reloading equipment, ending soonest. I have been overwhelmed with the prices some of the stuff is going for. A couple of year ago, I gave my buddy a Lee 1000 pro set up with lots of extras. At the time it would have been hard to give away for the shipping costs on ebay. I have seen the same setup with less extras go for more than $500. It truly is “welcome to crazytown”.

PFFFFFF, wait until these new gun laws hit us ALL. You think stuff is crazy expensive right now? You havent seen nothin yet. I saw 5,000 small primers go for over $1000 bucks on Gbker a couple days ago, plus shipping, plus tax, plus hazmat on top of that $1,000. And if you paid with a credit card, you got and extra up-charge added.

Hang on to what you have, you may never be able to replace it. I see the internet taking a huge hit when people cant buy any ammo & reloading stuff online anymore. Gun parts, guaranteed thats gonna get hit. If you dont have what you need right now, you`re gonna be in tougher shape real soon.

As it is right now in NY, you cant get anybody to ship you ammo to your house directly to you. Has to go thru an FFL dealer. And the FFL dealers are saying NOPE! Buy our store ammo or go without, we`re not excepting ammo shipments for nobody. We have a 10rd mag capacity limit. We can only carry 7rds in the mag during carrying concealed.

The rest of the country is going to feel our pain soon. Makes me laugh every time i`ve heard somebody say this could never happen in THEIR state. And here we are. Its coming.

Good luck fella`s, get it while you can, IF, you can.

I cast the bullets I shoot most of the time, and they are as accurate if not more accurate than store bought. I am tolerable on primers, but because I am being careful, I have pulled the bullets on some rounds I know I will never shoot; mostly jhp's that were not accurate after trying them out. Back in better times often loaded 50 or so just to test for accuracy; now better as primed brass.

I hate to admit to this but Christmas time I needed a little extra $ like a lot of people, so, having amassed a sizable stick of CCI41 primers I decided to list a box for..........$135 and watch what happened. BOOM! SOLD! in about 3 minutes and the guy asked if I had any more. Sure I said and sold him 2 boxes for $309 shipped. Did it again but with a $145 price tag. BOOM!! SOLD!! in about a minute and the person asked if I had more so I sold HIM 2 boxes for $320 shipped. And si it went until I started feeling a little sleazy about it.

I was just doing a Buy-it-now listing, had I done an auction it's hard to tell what kind of money I'd made.

Like yall are saying, RIDICULOUS!!

Having said all of that, if anyone has 1 extra box of small PISTOL primers, standard or magnum, they're thinking of parting with please let me know. Cash or trade. Maybe I'd have something youd like to have or something you need.

But yes, this can not go on like this.

From the title of this thread, I checked it to see if you were referring to Washington DC....

I would get a table at a local show and sell a bunch of stuff I don’t need but for covid fears. Covid isn’t something that you can take chances with imo. Unfortunately 400,000 [and still counting] Americans or their friends, family or some stranger took chances with fatal consequences.

The days of ordering ammo and components and having them shipped to your house are probably numbered.

Oh how I would love to respond to this with some facts but I KNOW the "P/C Patrol" will be all over me so I'll just say.... I really like the Rock Chucker Reloader and 9mm die prices are insane....

The other day I looked up the price on ammo seek for the 40 grain CCi Mini mags I got several months ago for 12c a round, they are going for 90c a round. If it wasn't for the wife using them in one of her pistols I would consider selling the 5000 rounds for about $4500. (if I did the math right)
