That’s silly. On the rare occasion our sportsman’s warehouse gets primers in, they sell for $23 to $32 a brick - prices varies slightly with each shipment. Another small LGS sells all their primers for $5 per 100, 200 of each type per customer.
I’ve been fortunate enough to pick up about 12,000 primers since September - includes all the sizes. Been able to find enough brass, powder and bullets too, just have to make my rounds frequently.
Found these components two days ago. They appear to have come from someone’s stash.

When everything calms down I think prices will come down. Right now it’s all about supply and demand but eventually producers will get caught up. There’ll be a glut then and prices will come down. They might settle a little higher but prices go up constantly anyway. When I was a kid in the mud 60’s we bought Winchester super X for under 50 cents a box at the hardware store.
When supplies and ammo were plentiful I stocked up. I’d buy primers when I saw them cheap and take $100 a month to Walmart and buy 5 boxes of bulk Federal LR’s. I’m in good shape for quite a while but keep my eyes open for a bargain.
I bout that most of the people panic buying guns will make a hint of shooting. I’m guessing they want a couple boxes for self defense and when things calm down they’ll stick their guns away and never buy another box of ammo. Hopefully people will calm down.

Unless you are sitting on primers from the 90s, $30/1000 was a pretty good price last year. Yes prices will come down but even $30 per is now going to look cheap. I expect the new normal closer $35-$40 in bulk.

Yet that is not retail pricing, more like garage sale pricing. Not reality for the vast majority.

I was fortunate enough to get the last two boxes of 1K of Winchester LR from the last case in stock at a local store Friday.
The owner and I go way back, and I didn't ask for any special pricing.
With tax I paid about $40/K.
He doesn't have a lead on any other primers at this time.
I stopped by another local store and they told me someone locally is sitting on a pile of small rifle and pistol primers, but is firm @ $300/K.
I'm putting feelers out at every local shop around. Some folks I've known for close to 40 years, some only a few months. Several have came through for me.
I've traded/sold a few shops some of my overstock parts and supplies and they've been quite appreciative.
There's still people in the business looking at long term customer relations. There's also the ones that likely won't survive due to their own shortsightedness.
I worry about the Mom & Pop shops having enough inventory to keep their doors open.
Likely going to be a long haul for us all.

It’s not just primers now. I’ve been in several small gun stores in the last week and most are jacking up prices on what guns they have now.
Of course this is just my opinion and it’s worth what you paid for it but I think things will calm down now. We didn’t see any violence in the past week other than the north west which is pretty normal these days. The other 48 states are pretty quiet. No violence other than that during the inauguration either.

I know first hand that many of these shops are paying retail plus tax for their inventory. Some are buying from Bass Pro etc, just to put something on the shelf. Many of the firearms are marked at their actual cost. They're hoping people will trade in instead of simply buying.
Empty shelves leaves nothing to look at. People ain't likely to come back if there's nothing to see.
I'm truly afraid some Mom & Pop shops aren't going to survive.

Hopefully shop owners realize this buying frenzy isn’t going to last and they’ve stuck some of their money back for the lull that’s going to follow. Eventually the market will be saturated then there’ll be a period of few to no sales.
Most of the small shops around here don’t have much to sell except lever action and bolt action rifles. There are plenty of over under shotguns but that’s about it. Handguns exist but pickins are slim.
One medium dealer in a nearby town has a good inventory of AR platform, lever and bolt guns but their inventory of handguns is rapidly drying up. I stop in about once every 10 days and a couple weeks ago their handgun cases had been restocked to the point you couldn’t have gotten any more in them. Monday I went in and bought a new Winchester 92 carbine in 45LC and many of the handgun cases are totally empty now. What few cases had merchandise had only a few guns in them and many were what I call junkers. There were a few Smith 686 and 629’s, a few Turkish imports and cheaper guns. There were very few what I’d call premium guns like Springfield, Smith and Glock. The only ammo was shot shells and only a half dozen boxes or so.
I live less than an hour from Smoky Mountain Huns and Ammo and Buds. It appears both shops have little to nothing to sell. During normal times I could walk in either and get about any popular firearm made and have a choice to pick from. Now there’s pretty much just leftovers most of the time.
There are a few deals however. When I bought my Winchester 92 this week it was marked almost a hundred under retail and they had a Short rifle in 45 and carbine in 44 mag marked the same. They had a wall full of lever guns from Henry and Rossi and throw in a few Winchester and a Browning for good measure. Prices and selection on lever action and bolt action were good.

IMHO, those two words cannot exist in the same sentence.

A quick perusal of armslist in Florida, I see one guy selling two bricks of SPP for $225 each, quite a few LPP going for $150-$180 a brick, a lot of people wanting to trade rifle primers for SPP, and several WTB’s for pistol primers, mainly SPP. Not quite to the $300/brick mark yet, but definitely north of $200.

There are several reasons for shooters to own and shoot air and CO2 powered rifles and pistols. We have been in the grip of one for a while. Our current circumstances will eventually change, but for the present, we do have some less expensive alternatives.

I’m in great shape on loading supplies and have enough already loaded for a year or more but if things stay this way eventually I’ll run out and will be buying a good pellet gun. I can shoot that in my back yard or inside for that matter.
I’m pretty much over black powder, just too much mess. Used to do it but no more.

Premium gun and Glock, Haha I love that! Never been a fan. That’s like saying ugly women (no offense) make great lovers but you still have to look at them.

Went to a local show today [first in a while] very crowded with some folks not masked, [I double masked] there was no powder or primers and only a handful of bullets for odd calibers. Plenty of ammo if your pockets were deep enough. A few old handguns and rifles. Mostly new stuff, ARs, plastic pistols, didn’t see but a few milsurps. Handled a couple of nice ss smiths but everything that was nice was over a grand plus. I had thought about getting a table and selling reloading stuff that I don’t need but decided that I would wait until after my covid shot and do it at the next show. Folks will be more desperate maybe.
