Default Spent the day reloading

Cold and rainy her in north texas today so I decided to do some reloading. Didn’t have very many loaded shells for my mini 30 so decided add a few. Anyway, I was in the middle of reloading and remembered , I bought all the components in the fall of 2000 at gun shows from guys who said “ammo is so cheap, reloading isn’t worth it”. The bullets (123 grain, 310 diam) were about 3 cents, the primers were $20 per thousand and the brass was about 9 cents. What a difference a year makes.

Funny thing, I did the same thing.

Tuesday morning is my regimen day at the range. Tuesday afternoon is tumbling the brass and Wednesday afternoon is reloading.

As of right now I have zero empty brass. All ready for next Tuesday.

What a difference a year makes? I counted 20 years! This new math is difficult for me.

January and February are my reloading months to prepare for the upcoming shooting season. Most of my standard loads get loaded now as come December of each year, most of my brass is empty.

I'm using components from the Obama memorial stash.

I spent dang near the whole day procrastinating but finally got 50 .40 S&W loaded.

Thought I'd show you what I did to one of my Mini-30's years ago.

The hand polished stainless actually looks like a mirror, but the picture doesn't show it.

...and I sold it.

Smile Try outs

Just got back from the Range. Got 270Win and 308Win
brass in the Tumbler right now, while waiting on the Hoppes
Foam Bore Cleaner working in the 270 Rifle barrel.

Trying out Speer 100gr (.277dia) HP with Win 760 powder
for something different. Also tried IMR 4064 with 130gr.

I tried out Varget in the 308Win with a 150gr bullet.

Both the 270 and 308 reloads turnout very accurate.

I have a lot of reloading to do in .38sp .44mag, 9mm, .223 and .308. im not worried about .44-40, I have plenty.
Bad news, Im procrastinating.
Good news, I havent used up my ever increasing in value and hard to replace reloading components.
Im still set up for .357 and pecking away with that a little so all is not lost.

Seems to be the season. I spent this evening reloading as well, mostly 38 Sp. Due to running low on small pistol primers, I primed this batch with small rifle primers. Never tried it before, but hey, a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do, right?

Default I've taken the opportunity....

To clean and sort a lot of brass, general organizing of my reloading operation which is a bit of a mess. A friend got a 8mm Spanish Mauser and I'm going to get dies for reloading that because the ammo we bought to try it out was outrageously priced. So a little more work on cleaning up and organizing and I'm ready to spend time reloading in earnest.

It amazes me the prices being paid for bullets, primers and even brass. I follow several local and other on line auctions and see Small Pistol primers going for $150 a 1000. 9mm loaded rounds bringing $45 -$50 a 50 round box.

Prior to y2k I loaded up just about every piece of brass that I had [no where near the amount of brass that I’ve got today] just in case it became a nightmare. Luckily it was a non event. Nowdays I keep 200-400 rds loaded up [depending on the caliber] rotate my stuff and then reload what ever I’ve used after a cas or zombie match. Don’t see the advantage to sitting on thousands of rds of cf reloaded ammo. If tshtf whatever happens will be over pretty quickly I’m thinking. I don’t live in a bulletproof bunker and a drawn out firefight isn’t going to happen. That only happens in the movies and the boob tube. I do have a good supply of .22s. I even still have some .22s from my y2k stocks. [We didn’t buy tp for almost a year].

Does anyone want to make a trade of some TP for spp's ? (Joke)

Glade to hear that you are all having fun.

I will be back out in the Spring when the weather warms back up.
Shooting targets, when my teeth are chattering, is not my cup of tea.

Stay safe and warm.

I`ll be happy to see it break 40. Still have to restrain it because my hands are always the same temp as the surrounding air. Nerve damage.

About 3 years ago I saw a sale on CCI 40gr. mini-mag 22LR ammo. I thought "what the heck, why not?" and bought 10,000 rounds. I figured I'd use it. It's been sitting unopened since then, but I'm thinking I'll be shooting lots of 22LR for awhile until things get better with availability of reloading components.

Pretty much all my brass is loaded. Only thing I have left to reload is what I shoot each time at the range or find left behind by someone at the range. My last range trip I found 25 new looking 38 Sp. brass laying in the brass bucket, and 2 guys shooting a couple of boxes of 9mm left all the casings behind. I'm surprised anyone would toss those given current circumstances whether or not they re-load. I remember when I didn't re-load. I still rounded up the spent brass and kept them in old coffee cans for years. They all ended up getting used.
