Default vihtavuori n105 460 S&W load data?

I scored a lb of this powder and figuring that it is by design a super mag powder and there's load data for both 454 C and 500 S&W, I figured that using it for 460 S&W would be a perfect fit.

Sadly, there's zero load data for it.

I have Hornady 240 and 300g XTP MAGs that I can load, any advice for load data would be highly welcomed!

If you can't find any other data you might have to get resourceful if you're determined to use it in the 460 Mag.

It's burn rate is supposed to be between N350 & N110.

Looking at Hornady load data for the 454C using a 240gr XTP Mag, N105 is faster burning than N110. N110 is pretty close to 2400 in that cartridge.

You could use that max 454C load data (26.1gr) as a starting point in the 460 Mag case & work up.

FWIW, QuickLoad shows that 26.1gr/N105 in the 460Mag case with the HDY 240gr XTP, loaded to 2.160" COAL, would be ~1374mv/1006me from a 5" bbl at a subdued 32K psi.

A 460 Mag case has 33.6% more capacity than the 454C does so there's ample room to grow.

Or you could just use it in something else with better documentation.

You can reload your 460 ammo with a the maximum of the .454 Casull (see in the Vithavuory reloading book).
My personal reload for the .460 is
N 110 : 36.5 grains. Bullet 230 Grains FMJ (i do a light crimp for the bullet)
You can try this reloading

I kicked around doing that. My only hang-up is not really knowing VV N105. Even at max charge for the 454, that leave a ton of empty case in 460 brass. I'm not sure if N105 is like H110, where doing that is a really bad idea.

Take H110 and a 240g projectile in 454 vs 460. In 454, the max charge is 38.2 grains, in 460 the MIN charge is 45 grains. Using max 454 data for 460 wouldn't be a solid idea. The same would go with H4227, max 454 is 34 grains, min 460 is 40 grains.

I thought that you just used the case as a scoop and then use a straight edge and level it with the top of the case? HHHmmmmm, guess I should check my loads before shooting them.

While I don't have any experience or knowledge of N105 or N110 I have experimented with H110/W296 in "outside to box" loads.

Do you even know if N110 has the same characteristic (when downloading) as H110 has & if that even translates in any way to N105?

I don't see any warning in Vihtavuori's Reloading Guide like Hodgdon has in theirs for H110.

Downloading H4227 isn't a problem so comparing charge differences with H110/W296 isn't meaningful.

H110/W296 has warnings like no other handgun powder.

If you're determined to use N105 in the 460 Mag contact Vihtavuori & ask them if there's any such problems downloading it & if they have any suggestions for a starting load in the 460 Mag.

Yeah...tried contacting VV...never got a reply.

I picked up that VV because it states in their own lit that is designed for 454, 460, and 500...yet gives no info for 460 loads for any of their powder.

This is from their own lit:

Strange...Maybe I'll just sit on it for a while and see if they ever make load data for it.

Call Hornady Customer Service and ask to talk with the reloading people (separate room of people than the equipment people), and ask for N105 460 S&W data for one or two bullets (that's normally all they give over the phone. They usually ask for an address and mail you the full packet of data.
