Sierra #1410 MatchKing HPBT .224diameter 52gr.
I have a chance to buy 12 boxes of these Sierra #1410 rifle bullets from an acquaintance at a fair price. .224 diameter 52gr. hollow point boat tail. He doesn't need them. My question is, do I need them? It's been many years since I have loaded .223/5.56 but I'm pretty sure that I still have a bunch of brass. I have a Mossberg MVP Predator and an AR clone (Palmetto State Armory upper) that I would be loading for. My initial thought is that it's a fairly light bullet. I've never loaded anything less than 55gr.

It should be a VERY accurate bullet but I personally wouldn't run it in a fast barrel. Something around 1/12 or 1/14 would be best - IMO.

Thanks. I'll have to check those twist rates. And thanks for the .44 brass!

I use those bullets in my Rock River Arms N Match A2 rifle with 20 inch barrel, 1/8 twist and a Wylde chamber for my 100yd CMP shoots. While I was working up a load using Varget powder, bench rested using a scope, I was getting basically one hole groups. There was no need to pay for the heavier MatchKing bullets when I knew I was only going to be shooting at 100yds. Its a very accurate bullet.

If the price was right?
I would buy them just because.

I have a bolt and an AR, both with 1:9 twist, they both stabilize that bullet!

I had a lot of looking invested in 224 bullets lately, sure wouldn’t pass them up.

I did some checking. My AR clone is 1:7 twist and my Mossberg MVP Predator is 1:9. Both are marked 5.56.

I have shot the Hornady and the Speer 52gr. HPBT in my 22-250.
It is the lighest bullet in my rifle with very good accuracy, that I load.
I used BLC-2 for max loads and w748, 4064, H380, 4895 & Varget.
I even tossed in some SR4759 for a reduced load at 2750 fps
that did 4 @ .57" at 100 yards, for light duty work.
Buy them !!

All right, gents, I have an update on these bullets. I went to pick them up. 12 identical looking green Sierra cardboard boxes in what appeared to be the original cardboard box that they all came in. Apparently, the seller didn't know what he had. Two of the boxes, on top, were indeed #1410 52gr. HPBT. The other ten boxes are Sierra #1360 55gr. Spitzers. I bought them all anyway.

Nice buy! The Sierra's work really well in my bolt action CZ527 Varmint MTR too (1:9").

I decided to keep the 55gr. The two boxes of 52gr. are in the Classifieds here.
