.45 GAP
I usually police my brass when I am finished at the range. Sometimes I pick up a few strays. Lately, I have found a few .45 Gap cases. Since I am finding a few, I must assume that someone is shooting this caliber. Honestly, I knew of the caliber, but had never seen one in real life before. Are these more common elsewhere?

Yep: usually where people with GLOCKs practice...?
Cheers!
P.S. I have found exactly one (1) 45GAP case at our range.

I recently picked up 10 at our club range. Probably one magazine full.

Could be, will have to ask if they use the range. Local SD does, but have never seen FHP there.

.45GAP ammo is used in .45ACP revolvers that use moon clips. i have done that when .45ACP was unavailable but GAP was available and relatively cheap. The last time I checked, that situation had changed, as more ACP shooters discovered the substitution is possible, and bought up all the GAP ammo.

Glocktalk post said FHP was switching to 9mm due to difficulty in acquiring GAP ammo. That was a 2018 post, so don't know what it may have chosen.

Have never seen a shortage in .45 ACP ammo until recently in the stores.

45 GAP: For when you want 40 S&W power, but 1/3 fewer rounds available in the magazine. Honestly, I never understood why anyone would want the 45 GAP. It seemed to me to be a solution in search of a problem, but that's just my opinion.

I carried the GLOCK 37 as a cop back when Bush 43 was still in office and it was the nee hotness. Good gun and a great cartridge. The .45 GAP was Gaston hedging his bets if the Clinton AWB didn't sunset.
If the ban continued, 10rds of .45 GAP in a GLOCK 17 frame would sure be better than 10rds of 9mm or .40 S&W since there was no wasted space.
Ballistics wise, the .45 GAP is no slouch. It achieves the same performance as the .45 ACP in a smaller package. My go to defensive in .45 GAP is the 200gr Speer Gold Dot. A modern update to the ever classic "flying ashtray" of the late 80s and early 90s.
The case webbing in the .45 GAP is actually thicker than .45 ACP brass and that means you can do some interesting things with with reloading wise.

GT Distributors had many 45 GAPs about a month ago and maybe 15-25 +K rounds of ammo. Ammo sat on shelf for weeks , could buy 1000 rnds when buying a pistol.
