I am starting to see them on line for 50-70 a thousand. Figure I will wait for the long dry spell when folks have so many at home they stop buying them. Maybe next year at this time if there are no new regs on them from our feds.

I have not been able to find any primers in Virginia for sale. Those that are trying to "screw" people with their high prices (e.g., $1 per primer) are the ones that give us 'gun owners' / 'shooters' a bad reputation. so sad..

Smile Sleeves of Gold

3-1/2 cents per primer. Got these CCIs this weekend.
New packaged Large Pistol CCI 4/100ct sleeves.

Wasn't planning on buying any more Primers, but not going to
pass on them either at that price. Just missed getting 2 Bricks,
oh well.

The Best to you and your Endeavors.

I've always been able to see these kinds of people at gun shows.

As of this morning, Midwayusa has priced almost all their primers at $59.99/1K. Primers aren’t available, but if they were, that would be the price.........

So this week I stopped at all my watering holes.

Most places had nothing, and I mean that literally. My local Bass Pro (one of the smaller ones) doesn't even have shelf space for powder or primers anymore. Asking about it, they told me they haven't been getting shipments of any kind save random projectiles.

Asking the smaller local shops, not a one of them reported getting primers since March or April of 2020 and all reported powder shipments stopping around Nov/Dec. Like I said, most have no powder of any kind.

Its nifty that people are finding stuff here/there but locally, we're not getting a thing....or 5 different shops, including Bass Pro, are lying...which I doubt.

With manufacturers not offering primers for sale as reloading components, but instead using them to load commercial ammo, we won't see any newly manufactured primers for sale for quite a while.

I have a bunch of ammo. Both my reloads and factory stuff. About 3K mixed primers. And I don't do a lot of shooting these days. If I knew a guy who was really needing something I could provide I would. But as far as someone I don't know, it would be very difficult to tell if the person was just a scalper looking to cash in on my willingness to help and sell to another already lined up buyer for a quick large profit.

And then deciding what to charge. The 2-3 cents a primer I paid for them or the maybe 5 cents a primer it most likely will cost to replace. Same with ammo. I did see online a few days ago some .44-40 ammo on line for $120 a box of 50 and it is gone now.

The biggest fear I have is that there will be a ton of regulations on components. So that ammo and reloading supplies will be even more expensive. If they realize the fight to take away firearms will take to long or be to difficult then they will go after the what we shoot in them. So far they seem to think they can go after our firearms. They have 2 years most likely to do this. But at some point the fight may turn from or progress to what we shoot in our firearms.

primers are one component i would never sell (unless REAL hungry).

i was blessed with an unusual amount of "foresight" back before o-whats-his-name got into office (usually foresight is in short supply around here) and i stacked enough for as long as i will need them.

but the only way they will be moving out of their place on the component shelf is if i am using them or trading one-for-one for another size/type primer.

good luck.

So is $60.00 a thousand the new median price of primers?

Attended the show in Centalia, WA. Primers were going for $180 to $200 a brick. Ammo was also silly, especially.22lr.

We just drove through Centralia this morning/afternoon on the way to St Helens, OR. We had no idea there was a show.

A guy I work for occasionally (I have a small trucking company) wanted to buy some primers, knowing I have quite a few. I told him I don't know what it will cost me to replace them and when that will be. He really wanted some, so I looked on GB at completed auctions and they sold for anywhere from $10 to $40 per 100, plus shipping, sales tax, and credit card fee. I told him I would sell him some at $20/100 and he was fine with that. He also wanted some 9 m/m ammo, so we did the same thing and came up with $30 per box. What I gave for the primers or ammo is irrelevant.

Primers for sale on the shelf in Augusta, GA are $18 per 100 count box. There are NO small pistol primers to be found in the city for sale.

...price $60 per 1000. I'm super disappointed in Midway. I never thought they would engage in gouging. I've spent thousands there over the years. Now I'm having to re-think dealing with them. I wish there was some way to send an email directly to Larry Potterfield. Feels a bit like betrayal after all these years.

They must have gone fast. As of 5pm, only thing showing available is 50BMG primers. Heck, at this point, I’d gladly pay $60/1K and be grateful!

One morning I opened the email notification from Midway that they had primers in stock 7 minutes after they sent it. I immediately logged on to buy some, and they were already gone. It's automated buying programs cleaning out the supply. Probably the primers showing up at gun shows for $500 a brick.

I have never gotten a back in stock e-mail out of about a hundred notices I have signed up for a year ago.

I wonder if employees are snapping all the primers up.

If I hadn't heard about it at my LGS, I wouldn’t have known either.
Saturday was packed, but Sunday the crowd was very light. The folks selling ammo and primers were holding firm on their silly prices. Not sure what kind of sales they had, but I didn’t see much movement. Looked like many sellers had dug deep into their personal Caches.

I sold a brick of small rifle primers that I did not need on a local board this past weekend and used the proceeds to buy the last 4 pounds of Unique at my favorite LGS this afternoon. The only other pistol powders they had in stock was H110 and Herco, both of which I don't use.

I've noticed over the past few weeks that the most popular powders were selling out rather quickly so I took a calculated risk and sold off primers that I wasn't using to buy a good amount of powder that I do use (the risk was that the LGS would still have some powder today).

Generally I don't like to be "that guy" but lately it's every man for himself when it comes to ammo and reloading components.

Overall I think I came out $10 ahead on the whole deal.

I just figure that if you believe in capitalism, then you roll with the punches.
Sure, there are opportunists out there and that some of them will make a killing and some will take a bath. Locally with show prices being $200/brick, if somebody who planned ahead and bought back when they were $20/brick wants to clear off a shelf, so be it. It might actually help "flatten the curve" of pricing and reward that person for thinking ahead. Similarly, if some person thinks they are going to stay high and stocks up now when prices are unsustainable, well I just see that as a good chance I'll see a price glut in a few years and it will be a great time to stock up.

As for me, I took a dozen bricks off the shelf and sold them for a lot more than I paid, but well under show prices and decided I'd just shoot .22 until primers got back to normal. The folks who bought my primers did so of their own free will and were delighted to get them for any price and without waiting in line for hours. Me, well I bought a nice Hammerli with the proceeds so it's smiles all around!
If I run out of .22, then I figure I'm out of luck and it's my own darn fault for not buying more when it was available.
Will $50 be the new normal for primers after this is all over? Only time will tell.

Just last evening, I got an email from FEDARM (never heard of them before) that they had Fort Smith SPP in stock. I quickly clicked the link. 5000 bulk pack, for a whopping $1,999.00! I chose not to buy, as of this morning, they are sold out.

I'm posting the link just because.

Simple advice from the engineering library: "If you don't like the price, don't buy the product."

In early January 2020, I bought Remington 22 LR Target ammo for $26 per brick from MidwayUSA. Included in that flyer sale was Aquila 22 LR ammo for $200 for 5K case. At current prices at MidwayUSA, I don't thick Larry is a gouger because he is buying inventory at current high wholesale prices -- maybe. If he sells per auction site prices, that eliminates the gouger from going to the auction site.

I didn't buy 22 LR bricks for $65 during the Obama era and I won't buy them now.

My LGS received 200 bricks of CCI SPP's . $90 / brick . Strict 1 brick limit per person. People were lined up in the parking lot 2 hrs prior to the store opening. Sold out in 2 hrs . So this tells me that people are STILL in a buying panic mode, thus prices will never decline. Not me. I'm sitting cozy on about 96,000 misc primers that I bought during the 2017- 2018 calm buyers market.

Here in the Spokane, WA area we are trading 2lbs of powder for 1K primers and 1lb of powder for 500 primers. Seems to be the going rate in this area.

Smile 300 a Lucky Number

Couldn’t pass these up. 3 cents/primer. I keep saying I’m not
going to buy any more.

Stopped by a small gun store that I purchased a 9mm Shield from previously. Love supporting the smaller businesses whenever possible, but after seeing their price of $12.99 a tray of small pistol primers I'm going to spend my money at the big-box stores. I looked at the counter guy and simply said "Seriously?". His response was "either buy them or don't."

So....still looking for sane prices.

My local watering hole, a small shop, was selling me 100 trays of primers for $5/per. I thought that in these times, that was ok. Unless I become completely desperate (which I am not), I refuse to pay more than $50/case for primers.

I kept on buying the max 200/visit for a few months, then that went to 100/visit. About a month ago, I went in and asked for my typical 100 lot. His reply:

"Well, you're not going to like this but we had to take the price to $15/tray."

I told him thanks, but never mind. He just kinda stood there for a second.

"Don't you want the tray?"

"Nope."

I won't pay $150/case for primers...ever. I'll find a new hobby before I give into that stupidity.

At this time I refuse to pay more than $5 per 100. If the dust doesn’t settle on this issue, I probably have enough to last the remainder of my life time. I am just cruising along buying ammo and components when I find decent deals.

If and when all this settles the new price will be between $60-$75 per 1000. Guarantee it.

I wouldn't be too sure. It's all about supply and demand. The last time the panic subsided, the prices of .22 ammo went back down to previous panic prices. I do think that manufacturers are probably having to pay more for salaries and utility bills while operating at maximum capacity at this point, which would justify an increase in product prices. If it is like tp and hand sanitizer, the bubble will burst and there will be an overabundance of products which will lead to lower prices.

If I could find primers for $60/brick I'd buy a good many of them even though I'm not desperate as I still have 6k or so on hand. When the dust settles I think that will be close to the new normal price.

Primers have been completely unavailable around here for a while so I was surprised to see some on the shelf when I stopped into the LGS today. There's a 2 sleeve limit and the price is $20/100, too high for me at this time.

He says the price he pays for primers went way up and I believe him because he's still selling powder for $30/lb, when I'm sure he could sell it for more if he wanted to.

It would make me feel a whole lot better if I could just back order some small pistol primers from a legitimate seller! We can’t even do that, that I know of.

A good friend at my local shooting club had a bunch of powder and primers he had bought from somewhere... anyway he had primers for $42/ 1000 and powder in one pound bottles for $46. I went on and bought brick of SPPs and a pound of 231 at those prices. I have “enough” of both, but I’ve just started reloading nine mm, so I figured a little increase in my supply, so I went for it. As for what the “New Normal” will be after all of this passes... first, I wonder “when” and second I wonder if the forces at work in our country have gotten strong enough to really mess up “normal” anyway. I feel pretty good about the preparations I have control over, but as I watch TV and listen to the radio, I really wonder about the things I can’t control. HMMMM.

Smile Weekend Splurge

3-1/2 cents per primer. Three 100ct sleeves left behind.
Again, not passing up Primers at that price.

I'm going to catch up on my Reloading Pistol Cartridges.

Smile CCI

Got these over the Weekend.
4 cents/primer. I don't know how long these prices will be.
More hoarding...buy them when you find them.

I recently locked my 6500 primers in the gun safe. They're worth more than a couple of my guns, lol. Remember when we would pass them by at $30 per thousand because we though they were to expensive? Oh, the good old days, lol.
