Default quick vibratory tumbler brass cleaning question

whats a good ratio of walnut to brass? never used my tumbler for metals, only for rocks. rocks are a completely different process. I plan on using nu-finish and dryer sheets. I assume used dryer sheets in strips.

big 25# tumbler way overbuilt for brass

Just cover all the brass with media, so the brass slowly circulates as it runs...and get all the rocks and grit out of the tumbler first. Put a tablespoon or two of nu-finish in the media and run it without brass until completely incorporated. The dryer sheets just help the media last longer, so cut them to suit yourself, remember that you're going to have to fish them out of the media when they get nasty.

Thanks! I'll keep an eye on the media level at first. I assume a bunch will end up in the cartridge cases and the level might need to be topped up until I get the hang of it.

I also have a massive triple barrel 15# wet tumbler, 2 12# wet tumblers and a 4# and a double 3# I might get a batch of SS pins and try wet if I get some really nasty range pick-ups.

I fill my Cabelas vibratory case tumbler over half with a 50/50 mix of corn cob and walnut. Then add up to 1000 9 mm brass (or equivalent). I add about a third, run for a minute, add another third, run for a minute and then add the remaining brass.

I can’t fit all the brass in at once, until the media works into the brass. For me, a full tumbler cleans faster than a partial batch. I also use a cap full of polish. We don’t use dryer sheets for our laundry, so I use small pieces of paper towels.

You can use a paper towel instead of a dryer sheet. I multi purpose my (very) old Lyman vibratory tumbler. I use it clean brass and to graphite my #8 lead shot that I make. It has had 100's of pounds of lead shot run through it(at about 5lbs. at the time).......Of course cleaning it in between.
