Loading with Autocomp
My "go to" powder has always been Bullseye, but things being what they are I will buy what I can find. Picked up 1lb of Autocomp the other day and check my manual to come up with a load for my .38's. This is what I settled on: 158 gr. plated bullet, 5.3 gr. of Autocomp, OAL of 1.147.
Tested with my M27 3.5 inch and M15 4 inch. Both fired 12 rounds at 30ft. with a 2 hand hold. I don't have a crono so no data.
First target is the M27 second is the M15: the M27 seems to really like it.

When I click on the targets they appear correctly on my PC screen , not bad groups .
These powder shortages have forced me to try other powders ... simply because they were available .
Haven't tried AutoComp ...yet ! But will keep an eye out for it .
Thanks for posting ,
Gary

Nice to know about Autocomp. I had never shot any 38s that weren't loaded with Bullseye or Unique until recently. This powder shortage has forced lots of us to branch out, and frankly it's nice to know that there are good 38 loads with 231, AA#5, Titegroup, etc. I've discovered that not being able to get Bullseye or Unique isn't that big of a deal.

It is hard for Greybeards to adapt. I use some other powders to load for handguns but always think in terms of Unique and 2400.

I have had excellent results with autocomp and .44 Remington magnum.

It takes a bit of time to compare this to the older standards, but...
It is extremely versatile and woks well from target to almost full power loads in many calibers.
Cheers!

I watched a youtube test on a pistol load and one of the powders was Auto Comp.
It was the slowest powder used and it got the highest fps and the person
stated that he thought it to be in the burn rate area as Unique powder.
I have yet to try this newer powdr.
