Bought 200 - - -
Got 200 sized, cleaned , polished .9 mm brass for a reasonable price, i figured out using my lead, powder bought when things were normal it comes out to a little less than pre covid prices for 50 rounds .

Surprised you had to buy 9mm cases, if you already reload. But it's always good when you can "roll your own" and save money too! :-)

It may sound silly but one of the reasons, a big reason, I play with my revolvers so much is that I am generally able to recover all the used brass. I shoot almost exclusively at our ranch and I've been meaning to pour a half-dozen yards of concrete sometime or another as the semi-auto brass has a way of hiding pretty effectively in the local underfoot vegetation. We generally get a little better than 90% of it back; some of it well-aged. Thank goodness for buddies who visit our place and also frequent the local public ranges where they do pick-up duty for me.

I clean all my brass but only two get a shine; 45 ACP and 30-06. The "range" where I shoot has dirt, shotgun shells and trash laying around so shiny brass is easier to find. And I'm shooting my revolvers more now (and I don't have to bend over!). I just bought 500 9mm cases, "once fired", because there aren't many (usually none) range leftovers in the last year.
I'd like to add another revolver to my armory, but I haven't been able to find any bullets and only one supply of brass so I'm gonna wait to get a 327 Fed Magnum, and of course guns are hard to find too...

Lay out a coupler of cheap plastic tarps. No more lost brass

Hi Mike, SC Hunter! I actually do that and every so often it works pretty well. The relentless wind hereabouts makes it quite challenging most of the time to keep a tarp in place. I've even staked it down and used rocks around the perimeter and on calmer days that generally works.
Sometimes even if the tarp stays put, more-or-less, a gust will ruffle it resulting in wave-like action and throw all the brass into the grass. I even mow relatively short before a session. The piles ARE easier to retrieve.
I'm still thinking concrete, lots of it, and a cupola or covered area of some kind. I'm gonna add that to my "to do" list at the "Never-Done" ranch!

Before the idiocy broke out I was loading 223/556 with my powder coated and gas checked bullets for .17/round. Now, even with a 10 cent primer, I'm loading at .22/round. Another couple thousand and I'll be in the market for powder so no telling what it'll be. Luckily I hate the ARs so shooting is pretty restricted.
9mm? I don't know, 5 or 6 grains of $23/pound powder, even a 10 cent primer (if I must) and my cast bullet. Maye 7 bucks for 50 rounds?

I made a brass catcher out wood frame and screen beside my shooting bench. They hit the screen and fall into the trough at the bottom.

I have a brass catcher on the 308 and 223 AR's and just don't care if I loose a few 9mm's, but the 45 ACP's are painful to loose.

When I go shooting in the desert.........
I take a card table & chair, along with a gun rest, targets and a large
cardboard box to catch the pistol's cases that has a brick or two inside if windy.
the top flap can be held out with tape and a paint stiring stick (etc.) for
pistols that eject straight up, like my M92 and a towel will slow or stop their bouncing around.

Not silly at all! I started with revolvers 50 years ago, shunned semi-autos for 25 years, then succumbed to a Ruger P90. Shooting indoors was OK for semi-autos as the lane seperator walls kept brass close and concrete floors were fairly clean. Bending over was OK for a much younger me. Moved to Oregun and the only "range" is a wide spot up in the hills off a logging road and picking up brass was a chore, so I made a long handle hook/tool so I didn't have to bend over, but still couldn't find all my brass. I discovered a Taurus 905 and that solved several of my problems; easily drop every spent case into a container (and moon clips are a huge benefit), no bending over, no need for glossy brass, and I go home with all the brass I brung wit me.
Laying out a tarp, setting up a "deflector", etc, (a nut picker-uper also picks up rocks pebbles, trash) is adding a lot more set up work/time, more to load/unload/reload for an old man that just wants to go shootin'...
Hmmm, gettin' kinda wordy, ain't I!

On some trips with the 9mm, I have to go to indoor ranges, where you can't save your brass
when the weather is bad or I am treating the kids, for a little fun and time together.
However, I do use my oldest brass for these trips, that has probably been loaded 4-5 times or more
so I don't feel the pain as much.
Just glad that they like shooting revolvers, also, which picks up the slack.
