I finally got out to shoot this load through my 4" S&W M10 this afternoon. With the exception of some shots I pulled I found that this load shoots to point of aim. I have a question for the veterans here though. I have no chrongraph so can someone tell me what this load will generally chrono at through a 4" tube thanks.

5.5 gr in .38 Special brass clocks 970 fps MV with a 158 gr LSWC out of a 4" M66-2.
In a 4" M&P, with that same load, I got 980 fps MV, so some of it is going to depend on the gun, plus you're using a heavier bullet with .5 gr less powder.

I just got through casting 250 Lyman 358429s, so I'll put your load together and see what it does in my guns and get back with you.
Alloys differ with each caster, so I'll give you a weight on what I actually use, so you can compare with what you have.
I size to .359" and that may have a bearing on things too.

Thanks Paul I greatly appreciate that. I also recognize that there are many variables at work when firing the same load through two different guns. But I do think that most differences are minor at best. I just wish that I loaded up more of these rounds as my targets weren't the best. I will be looking forward to your post

The weight is ~166 gr with my alloy. That was as cast, before sizing or any other manipulations on my part.

I have those same bullets cast by a small commercial caster, and mine weigh 177 gr. with his alloy and lube. They run right at 900FPS with 6.4 gr. of HS-6, from a 6" barrel. FWIW

I know out of my 5-inch M27 Smith, Lyman #358429 with 6.0 grains of Unique is a bit over 1,000 fps.

I'm betting your load will run around 850 fps. It's a great standard load recommended by no less than Elmer Keith himself.

The 358429 Lyman is hands down THE most accurate bullet out of all my .38's and .357's. I've shot it all the way down to 2.5 of Bullseye in the .38 Special and it was very accurate even at that slow speed, and past 1200 fps out of my S&W 28's with a load out of an old Lyman mauaul with Herco powder and .357 mag cases. Great bullet design!

I like the 358429 over 15.5g W296 and a standard primer. Sweet!
Never tried them in a special configuration, for that I use a 358156 w/o gas check over 5g W231.
My straight WW alloy gives me 170g for the 358429.

I went out and tried my hand again with the 168gr 358429 5 gr Unique combo and some TVB 158gr SWC over 4.6gr of Unique. All of the loads were clean burning leaving no unburned powder or leading. I was tring to see how well the 358429 would group for me today since it showed great promise yesterday. The TVB combo has always been a nice accurate standard load in my gun since I've been using TVB bullets. The only thing I learned today is that I need more range time as my shooting was terrible.
Yesterday the 358429 over 5gr of Unique gave me the smallest group of all the loads I tried. However today you wouldn't even know it was the same load by looking at the target I shot.

The MV numbers are calculated to compensate for being 15 feet from the chronograph. The BC has a bearing on the results.
The last two loads are for information only, since they're at least .38/44 loads and may not be conducive to a long life for a M10.
