Default New Normal

I went to my favorite LGS/range a couple of days ago and they got in a modest shipment of powder including HP38 and 231. The old price had been about $30 a pound for quite some time. It is now about $40 a pound. The other LGS I drop in on frequently has had their powder priced at $50 since their last re-supply, about six weeks ago. FYI. No primers.

Went to a large gun show here in the northwest yesterday. The show is Friday - Sunday for the public. Cheapest powder prices i saw were $ 45. lb. Primers that I did see were going to $ 100. or more a brick, ammo has dropped in price, somewhat, and seemed to be plentiful in most of the popular calibers . Since I reload for 11 different calibers, and well stocked up, I am good in that dept. Did pick up a nice little High Standard {.22 semi auto with original box and paper } for a good price though.

It's a H/S Supermatic Citation model { # 9247 } with 5 1/2" barrel, the bridge style rear site, one mag. original box and instruction sheet. Sorry, I am unable to take any pictures, but the gun looks almost un-fired with minimal finish wear. Seller was asking $695. for it, i bought it for $650. Shooting buddy that was was with me and already has a couple of these guns knew I was looking for a nice H/S found it on a sellers very crowded table. He told me, if you don't buy it, I will...I bought it, LOL !! There were several there, most in well used shape, ranging in prices of $ 575 for a rough one, to $900 for a nice trophy model, and with just the gun and one mag. Both of us felt I got the best one there , at a good price....I'm a happy camper !

I've a SportKing and an HD Military. I'm not sure of the value and not really sure i want to part with them. The market here for High Standards is right slim so maybe i'll just hang on for now.

I bought 2 lbs of 231 last week for 26/lb I hope that's my new normal. No primers to ignite the powder. They had Hp38 for the same price.

Western AZ I saw powder for about $40(after tax) of a 1Lb can in a shop and primers $10/100. The show prices were a bit higher than those and lots of real dregs out on tables for too much money. I've got plenty of powder in general but was happy to pick up a pound of Titegroup since I'd just found it to work particularly well in one application about the time I ran out.

Primers are now the big issue. It may be 18 months before the primer supply returns.
