My LGS received a shipment of 10K primers. Selling at their cost: $170 / thousand. I left them there.

Dug out about 1000 rnds of 45 ACP reloads that I knew had to be pulled. Long job watching tv( hard to find anything to watch), tossing cast bullets( 4 different types) in contained, carefully depriming cases, washing cases with Dawn dish detergent, soaking in vinegar solution, washing again in washing machine detergent, 3 rinses and sun drying. Looks that 95% of primers are good but will Only Use them in range loads for casual shooting. Found some early cases from 1930’s and WWII plus early civilian mfg’ers.

My next stockup will be when it looks like prices have stabilized (they are on sale), but next time I'll pack in a 10 year supply. That should last me forever....
The days of primers at less than $45 per M are gone forever.

FYI, I just picked up two bricks of CCI SPP at Sportsman’s Warehouse in Kelso, WA, for $25, about $23 after my 5% vet discount. Same price throughout the pandemic, but you have to be lucky enough to be there when they arrive.

Gun show prices have come down from $200 to $300 to $67 to $150 per brick, most at $125.

Just like what "The Preacher" said, Sportsman Warehouse relatively close to me had Lg Pistol Magnum primers for 43.00 per 1000. Myself and my son went and bought a brick each. Limited to one brick.

My Sportsmans Warehouse had Small Pistol primers for $4.10 last week, but you were limited to 200 primers per person. A local shop claims his cost is $60 per 1000, so it pricing them at $80 per 1000. I'm sure Sportmans is making a decent profit, so I really doubt he's paying $60.

The local shops will usually charge all the market will bear. Once they can not sell at their price then they will start coming down until they do sell. Most of the Mom & Pop gun shops can not afford to tie up a lot of money on something that is not selling.

I've deprimed some in the last year or so and found that when re-seated some were looser than I'd have liked. Assumed it's because they came from a tighter pocket and went into a slightly larger one. My solution was to stand them upside down in a loading block and put a dot of Crazy Glue on them. It runs around the ring between the case and primer.

If I plan on reusing the primers, I just tumble the cases in dry media. Like you I have found cases from 1916 up to today. The real old ones I try not to use, but every once in a while one slips through.

If I pull down ammo to reuse the cases I do one of two things. I either leave the primers in and reload them. Or if I think the primers are mercuric then I punch the primers and throw them away after soaking them in oil.

If you are planning on reusing the primers why take a chance on messing them up in the depriming process?

In my case, I reused them in a different caliber.

Went to a gun shop in Michigan to sell a shotgun I haven't shot for many years. They had primers, but they looked like older stock. They were $8.99 a hundred. I am not that hard up! Bob

Normally I'd agree with you, but this guy is a different bird. Nothing in his shop has a price tag except firearms. You have to ask the price on everything. A few months ago I asked about the cheapest 45 acp he had in stock. He quoted me a dollar a round for steel cased stuff he'd had for years. He also said it's getting ready to "go up". He has any caliber you could want in stock, but that's because his prices are sky high. He's been collecting sales tax on FFL transfers for years. Not tax on the actual transfer fee (which would be correct), but tax on the purchase price of your firearm. Anyone local with half a brain knows he's sticking the money in his pocket.

It seems as if some sellers do not price things until you ask. Then they size you up to see how much you are able to pay. We have a gun shop manager like that here in town. The shop owner is breaking him of that, but it is a slow process. See the same mentality in sellers at swap meets and gun shows.

It works fine. In my case some seated way too easy for my liking, probably because of slight variations in primer pocket dimensions, so I applied a drop of Super Glue.

They're all working great, sitting in a peanut butter jar waiting for me to shoot them.

It's a stopgap measure, at best. But it's fine for blasting ammo.

Various Academy Stores in the Oklahoma City area had primers at $7.90 per box, limit four boxes. They do not stay on the shelf very long.

I just purchased 1000 small pistol primers at Midway $76.99.
Overpriced, maybe. New normal, probably for the foreseeable future.
Was glad to find them, slim pickings around here for two years now.

To keep my reloading costs to a minimum I am going to use some once fired primers.....I know that they worked, should be good for another firing shouldn't they?

Once fired primers, AKA "rebuildable cores".

Tedious, corrosive, but it works.

My local Fin Feather Fur usually has CCI SPP for $9.99/100
Usually limit 2, last time it was limit 1.

Not proud but I pick up my limit when available.

Only primers I have been able to find locally since first quarter of 2020 were at a gun range where they took them in trade and had been sitting on the shelf for a while. Ended up giving them $0.15 per primer for a mix of WLP and CCI #300.

Recently have been able to order form Natchez and Midway, paying $75-$90 for 1k of various small match primers, but I consider it more luck than anything else since neither has a consistent supply of the things, and I've been up pretty late and into the early morning when I'm guessing they update the websites/inventory, where when I check again at noon they are usually sold out again.

It is over priced by quite a bit, but I am starting to get below what I like to have around as a minimum inventory for primers and some powders. And of course keeping a stock pile of stuff is pretty much what has enabled me to keep going even though my last "buy everything I'll need for next year order" was in November 2019.
