I'm not up on primer prices, but are the Midway prices outrageous or just a few dollars more than current and reasonable prices listed by non-shakedown sellers elsewhere?

Thanks for the heads up.
Yea, fortunately I am in good shape on all primer sizes. However, I am a buyer at <= $50 per brick. If Sportsman's Warehouse can still sell them for $23 to $30 a brick, someone has increased their margins a tad.

About double what they used to be. Good that they have stock and that it's not vaporizing instantly. Still available at 0900 PDT. To me that says that demand at high price is subsiding and hopefully lower prices are on the way. Unless you're down to zero on-hand and desperate, give it some time.

Midway had most of the handloading stuff marked up way beyond reason earlier this year. I’m seeing the prices on several products back down.
I’m figuring they’re making a killing on these, but maybe it’ll deter folks from buying to resell.
If you need lpp’s it beats gunshow and auction site prices.

I was Midway customer all the way back in the 80s. I was even customer no. 001 in BOTH my zip codes (home and college.)
Like most things, I find they just ain't what they used to be.

I began buying Midway products in the late '70s, I think, but have seldom bought from them in the last thirty years except when they have something I need and no one else does. In the beginning, they had a modest newspaper-type flyer of a few pages. Prices were very good and no shipping fees.

I just back from my gun club. The shop had small pistol primers in stock. I have been needing them for a while, into my last 1000.
Looked closer and saw the where Magnum primers, which I do not need.
The real bad part was the Price. $97.00 a 1000. 😳 our club isn’t in the business of making money on club members. They paid almost that much to get them.
If I saw regular SP primers for $76.00, I’m sorry, but I would buy them. They might come down after a while, then again, when would that be.

Yes, if you need them, buy them. If I needed something, I wouldn't mind paying a higher than usual price, though higher than usual may be a standard price not only for these times but from now on. No one knows for sure and speculation without a fact basis isn't worth much.
Paying the going rate (a higher price) is not the same as paying shakedown prices. I'd prefer not to deny myself of a hobby's enjoyment to save a dollar or two.

I remember that monthly newspaper type catalog. That was back when shipping was free, in the 80s/early 90s. I basically equipped my reloading bench by looking at the inside cover "monthly specials" and buying something just about every month.

If you think primers are outrageous, take a look at what Midway has .338 Nosler Partitions priced at for a box of 50. Last I saw was $195. Now that's outrageous.

I don't like paying more than I should anymore than anyone else. But, I just don't get the guys who complain "I would rather stop shooting than pay xxx amount for primers or powder".
I own guns and shoot because I enjoy it, and have a fair bit of coin invested in the hobby. I look forward to going to the range every week. So I am going to leave the tens of thousands of dollars worth of guns in the safe, and take up golf because primers are $60 over priced compared to several years ago? I don't think so.

I stated this in a previous thread.
I’m not one to pay more than retail and it pains me to pay retail but I worked 54 years to be able to do whatever I want when I retire and now I’m retired and not going to choke over a few bucks. As mentioned above I’ve got tens of thousands invested in my hobby and I’m going to enjoy it.

$23? I bought primers from the local SW in May and July. Prices were $45 to $50. What location has then for $23

Thanks for the update Cdog!
I was a Midway customer in the 80's also - big deal, woohoo I'm special.
I still order from them today and will continue to do so. I also buy from other suppliers who help support my second amendment rights who's only goal in life to to screw me out of my money.
If you don't like the price don't buy.

Small pistol primers and large pistol are still hard to come by in my area. One local with numerous locations is selling @ $10.99 per 100! Other stop is @ $6.99 per 100 with a limit of 3 boxes.
Yikes!

I've been a Midway customer since the late 1980's, when there was no internet, business was conducted via catalogs and the USPS. It is quite possible that the big outlets, like Midway, will be getting primers first, then it will trickle down to the local gun shops. I don't expect prices to return to pre-pandemic levels and this is true of prices for everything. During the pandemic, the government printed a whole lot of money, this leads to the devaluing of the money and that translates to inflation. I expect 2021-2022 prices on most things to be 10-30% higher than they were in 2019 and I think it highly unlikely that prices on anything will return to 2019 levels.

I agree. I never want to pay more than I have to, but I enjoy my hobby too much to stop. As things go it's still cheaper than a lot of pursuits. And, we could easily be paying hospital bills, legal fees, or alimony.
Sometimes we just need to step back and look at what's really important.

Midway gets kicked around a lot, but not by me. I buy from them all the time. Sometimes I think folks are just a little jealous of their success. I guess I am too! I’d like to make as many trips to Africa as old Larry has, but I never will. Anyway, good for him.
As to the “money printing” (aka DEBT) thing, and the effect on future prices… yes, and it’s about to get even worse, a lot worse.

I'm buying a brick here and there at 75 to a hundred bucks. Because I don't trust that some national event or boneheaded political stunt isn't going to land us right back in the hopper. Once I have a lifetime SHTF supply, I'll lay low and see what happens.
If prices comeback down I'll just apply that oft-heard refrain "You didn't over pay, you bought too early".
Even if I'm sitting on a mountain of components I paid too much for ... I'll still be sitting on a mountain of components and I'll enjoy the view.

I have been buying from Midway for 20+ years. In that time, they never had the cheapest prices or fastest shipping. I buy from them because I like the people.
It's very possible that Midway has higher costs than some other retailers and that's why they have higher prices. Retailers work on margins. They have to buy the product before they can sell it to you. If BassPro can get primers for cheaper than Midway can, they can sell them for cheaper than Midway can.
