Default White Bellcrank Cube Fell Out On 550

Decided to load a few .45's tonight. I checked the powder weight before starting. After I reloaded a few (20) rounds, I checked the powder lever in a case and there was none.

I took the powder measure off the toolhead and observed the white cube was missing. I found it on the floor under the press. I loosened the bolt and reinserted it. Everything seemed tight, but it must have worked loose enough to allow the cube to work out.

I have a few rds that may not have powder in them. I will be very careful with them.

Happenings like that just burst my bubble.............

Things happen but at least it was not a major thing like a fender bender !

I also dislike it when I crack two eggs for my hash browns and one yolk breaks.................

Life is tuff, some times.

Pull the bullets. I've tried comparing weights between loaded rounds and there is too much variation to rely on weight checks. If you want to be safe pull the bullets and reload the components.

I have had it happen to me about 15 years ago. That piece is under the NO B.S. warrantee. I took one from a spare powder drop. But When I called it in, I also bought the 550 spare parts kit. I don't want to say how many of the index balls under the shell plate I've lost!

I think I have some spares somewhere. It seems that one fell apart many years ago and I got some more from Dillon.

I pulled all 35 rounds and only 2 had powder. Glad I caught it when I did.

Yeah I would pull them. I tried weighing random samples from a 250 round batch last week and they varied by more than the weight of the powder charge. I run a powder cop and I still visually verify each case before inserting the bullet.

Back when I only had one Dillon powder measure, I lost that little piece which shut me down. To get by until I could order a new one, I cut a square out of a large primer tray and dressed it up with a file. A lot of work for a small part but it worked. I now have a bag full of the factory parts and have never lost another.

When that square white cube goes missing your powder measure throws rather inaccurate charges. Definitely pull them. A while back when that happened to me Dillon sent a new complete "new style" powder measure to me. Apparently that older style is a known trouble maker.
