Default Anyone loading Acme 140 RNFP in .40 S&W?

Acme makes great bullets and those neat wood boxes they come in are practically heirlooms' from a bygone age but I don't think this one is going to work in .40 S&W! Or maybe it is just my Glock. This is a Hi-tek coated bullet that is .500 OAL but the cylindrical part is at least .280 in length. I loaded a few at 1.13 OAL, leaving about 0.090 of the shoulder exposed, they fit the chamber gage fine but don't come close to chambering in my Glock model 22.
If I seat them deep enough to chamber, I think the OAL would be about 1.05 and I'm not even sure if I can go that deep with my powder charge.

I also load Missouri bullet IDP #7, the 140 conical and they function fine.

Which powder are you using and what's the charge. IIRC 1.135" is the max OAL for the 40 S&W and a 1.05" OAL is not all that bad as long as you're not at the max charge of the powder and depending on what the data uses as an OAL. It is however deeper than the recommended min OAL of 1.085"

Why so light on the bullet? Maybe The 155gr bullet from Acme or just stick with the MBC 140gr bullet. If it ain't broke don't fix it lol.

I have the same problem in 9mm with a big 147 gr bullet.

With a short OAL that works in your weapon..................
you need to try Bullseye , w231. cfep or be86 for a load that will maybe work
in your weapon.

Since a long OAL length is out, you can forget about Alliant flake powders
and look at the fine grained powder for your work ups.

Good luck.

That AL-5 is in the ball park with Herco which was a great powder in its day.

If AL-5 is not too bulky and finer in grain than Herco or Unique, it will work for you.

Otherwise it will work in a 357 if you have one.

Good luck.
