Default trading brass

I have up to 2000 40 cal. brass I would like to trade for 45 acp brass.
What would be a fair trade I was thinking 2 40's for 1 45acp
2 for 1 40 for 45

the shipping would be on each party I ship 40's to you, you ship 45 to me.
does this sound fair?
Thanks to all that reply.

I don't own a 40, so I'm not in this game, But you may have to up it to 2.5 40's to a 45, rounding up that would be 700 45 for 2000 40's.

I see lots of 40's at the range, and very few 45. (I give 40's away by the 1000 to people that reload it.)

I was witness to Y2K, and saw many young and impressionable people fall victim to the 40 S&W hype. While I was at it, I had my fun too. I would ask these panicked people to check the paperwork that came with their handguns to see if they were Y2K Complient, as most everything manufactured before 1998 was not!

I have picked up a few thousand 40 S&W as range brass, I keep a thousand in reserve in case one of these handguns should find the way to my gun safe.

I try and keep 1000 of everything, but the stuff I had stored in the barn, got invaded by wasps laying eggs and stuffing the cases with spiders and sealing them with mud! What a mess!

I surely don't know about the Ranges in your State, but here where I live you can pick up once fired Factory Brass all day long at our Club Range. It is so plentiful that I don't spend any extra effort in looking for the few cases that hide in the grass after I finish shooting. I just go over to the Range Bucket and fill up the empty slots in my boxes. Almost all the Range brass I pick up has only been fired one time and many times the shooter even goes through the trouble of sticking the empties back in the original box prior to tossing it in the bin!

Once in a while shooters who see me shooting a caliber they are about to toss will ask me if I want them. It's pretty much gotten to the point where if someone else needs them I will say just hand them to the other guys if they want them. If not then I will take them.

45 acp is very popular and you should be able to find plenty of it for free - without even trading.

Must be a regional thing. I see lots of 40 laying around, but 45 is scarce.

2 for 1 seems fair to me... If someone wants to haggle and do 2.5 to 1 go for it if you don't need the 40's.

Make sure to verify small pistol primer or large pistol primer on the 45's if it makes a difference to you.

Plenty of 40 S&W brass out there and still plenty of 40 S&W pistols in LEO holsters. There is a switch back to the 9x19 in progress, fueled by the FBI going back to the 9, but not all LEO agencies have the financial wherewithal to follow the FBI in its quest to find the ultimate handgun caliber and run around in circles. In a similar vein, some LEO agencies went to the 45 ACP. When it comes to trading 40 S&W brass for 45 ACP brass, if you find someone who reloads for 40 S&W, but not for for 45 ACP, but has 45 ACP brass, then a 1 for 1 trade would be fair.

Yes, beware that 45 ACP brass now has two sizes of primer pockets. Small primers were introduced by Federal in their non-toxic line of ammo, but the trend towards the use of small primers seems to be spreading.

I have found that once-fired SPEER 45acp +P small primer nickeled cases work extremely well for me...

Cheers!

P.S. If I didn't have mucho 40 S&W brass en masse (beaucoup?) I would be interested.

if I get 200 45 out of a 3/4 full 5 gallon bucket at the range I am lucky, the rest is 9mm, 380,or 40 with a few 357.
I am aware of the 2 primer sizes, either work for me just a pita to separate.

The last gun club I belonged to in Ohio the end of every shooting trip I got down on my hands and knees and picked up a variety of handgun brass. Of course nobody else was there to see me. Nobody ever left .45 Colt. Wonder why?
Now the club I'm at in Michigan, NOTHING on ground except .22's. I am in pretty good shape on brass { except Colt} Bob

I have a virtually limitless supply of .40 S&W fired brass where I shoot, so I don't even bother to pick it up. Not so much for other handgun calibers, except 9mm which are also very commonly left behind. I occasionally run across a few .45 Colt cases on the ground, but that is rare.

There is a local guy who comes to the range to pick up all the fired brass at least once a week, which he sells for scrap metal.

Don't forget the U. S. Border Patrol. They switched from .40 to 9mm a few years ago, but the full transition to 9mm has not yet finished. At least I believe it hasn't. I wonder what is happining to all the USBP .40 pistols and ammunition?

Probably Beretta 96D's and HK2000's. I don't think the Feds sell their surplus to civilians. I keep an eye on LEO trade ins and I never see any Fed guns. They probably give them away to some tin pot dictator in South America or Africa rather than returning them to the tax payer.

Or perhaps like the FBI, they destroy them.

From what I'm reading in many of these posts there sure seems to be a lot of .40 being shot at ranges for such a "dead" caliber.

When I think dead caliber based on what brass I don't see at the range I think .41, or another caliber on life support is .327. Can't recall seeing either of these in a while, although it could be that these revolver calibers easily get policed up by their shooters.

I usually just throw the .40 away if it gets into my range brass.

If anything the 45 ACP is dying. At least that's what it looks like in the brass buckets at my range. Old horse pistol cartridge on it's last legs. OK boys, fix bayonets, we're going over the top.

I would say at least 2 (.40) for 1 (45) and that would be a generous offer.
