I just want to know if anyone may have this in use or especially, has purchased it.
Hornady PN:050073

Does it come with everything with the exception of the powder measure?

Why did they have to change things so that now you have to change the whole rotor for precise pistol metering?!?! I like the pistol micrometer myself in the standard rotor.

I think my current version of the LNL-AP is the "second generation," which has the wire ejector and until they sent me the new bottom plate, didn't have the place for the case feeder.

The only thing that I have bad to say about the press is the fact that they keep evolving it, and I'm scared that certain parts won't be available for the older presses.

However, I do have very high marks for their customer service!!!

I think that is the same case activated system they have been using for a couple years. I have a 2nd generate LNL-AP also (it's about 1.5 years old, but it DOES have the arm sticking out for the case feeder), and that looks like the same case activated drop system I have.

My press came with the rifle rotor. I first bought the pistol micrometer insert for the rifle rotor (which had been discontinued already), but had problems. Powder would work itself between the rotor and measure body and bind up. The measure sometimes wouldn't reset, and then not drop charges. I suspect this is the reason it was discontinued.

So I bought the pistol rotor, which works much better - no binding. I did not have to get a new case activated drop system, the same system works with either rotor.

I don't think 050073 is 'new', despite the description. I think it is the same one they have been selling for a couple years, and it works with both rotors.

Another idea for the powder system is to put the RCBS system on it, it would work just fine and I like my RCBS measures better. I use both.

Joni,

Since I have a LNL AP on order, what are you suggesting with the RCBS Uniflo in this application? Is it just a straight substitution or something different?

Thanks.

I would like to know how much an RCBS case activated system would cost to put on my newest Hornady press- I got in at a club meeting, but it lacks the powder measure.

I guess I need to call RCBS customer service on Monday for a part number for this outfit.

RCBS stuff is nice, but seem much more expensive anymore. Heck, I paid $239.99 plus tax for my L-N-L outfit and a free shell plate brand new some years ago.

I think the powder drop system is about $80.

What's better about the RCBS powder measure? They appear to be the same design.

Andy Griffith: I guess I was confused, I thought you bought the complete kit. The kit comes with the case activated powder measure.

The spring on ine is closer to the center of the unit and has a straight up down motion.

I use an RCBS Uniflow measure w/the linkage that came w/my LNL Progressive. A Hornady powder measure came w/the set up but I'd polished my Uniflow and it's action was quite smooth. To make it fit required a few washers to make up for the Uniflow rotor being a bit thinner than the Hornady.
Nothing against the Honady measure, was familiar w/ the RCBS one I had.

Does this help reduce the chances of the rotor binding and not resetting?

My Hornady measure has gotten wear on it from the off center spring tension, the RCBS has worked flawlessly so far.
