Default For you Lyman 55 powder measure users...

Sometime in the last century I lost the cap to my Lyman 55 powder measure. As I decided to put it back into service for reloading 32 S&W Long I searched for a replacement cap, however Lyman shows it as out of stock. Going to the local auto parts store I found a freeze out plug that fits perfectly, Dorman 555-049.

Thanks, I have one. I bet the plug costs about 1/10th of what the cap would run too.

used an old pill bottle cap, loose but a wrap of electrical tape fixed it. FYI the cap from the small size spray paint cans works as a cap for the RCBS Uniflow.

Lyman sells parts for the 55 on their web site. The reservoir cover is $1.12. Of course I don't know what the shipping is but the way things are going these days, it's probably 25 bucks. I used a 55 for years and it gave great service. It's been retired in favor of a Hornady Lock n Load and is clamped to a shelf above my reloading bench. It has no cover. I don't remember ever having a cover for it.

I lost the cap for my Uniflow. It was the old green cap that fit inside the reservoir.
I called RCBS and they shipped the new style black plastic cap that fits over the reservoir.
No charge.

I did the same as the OP on my Belding & Mull measure.
I broke the plastic reservoir on it. B&M is long out of business.
The old B&M measures had brass reservoirs.
I order an 18” brass sink tailpiece and cut it at the desired length.
I also cap it with a Dorman freeze plug. Part # unknown at present.
The only negative is you have to look inside to check your powder level, but with an 18” tall reservoir it holds a lot of powder.
