If they are, it’s a scam site. .12 cents seems to be the going rate for primers. $30/lb for powder is what I’m seeing. I don’t believe that2.5-3 cent primerswill happen ever again. Probably.08 cents will be the number.

Not being a smart alec but how do you know what "marked up 3 to 4x the cost" is?

I say that because a friend has a shop and while he can buy powder, he hasn't seen primers on the wholesale level in forever. He said his cost is around 50-53/4. Then I see people talking about prices they are holding out for like $35 from the old days. It isn't happening. So again, how would you know what a fair price is? Based on what?

Be careful, lots of scammers out there. Afraid the 30.00/brick days are history. I’m hoping 60.00/ brick becomes a norm if things ever catch up.

Another who has no idea of costs in todays market. Between fuel to transport, metal costs and worker availability it is a get it if you need it proposition. The fact is that if every gun shop put out 10,000 primers first thing upon opening and limited it to 1K per shooter per month they would still sell out by noon. Every reloader wants more, not just a few but all of us.

This afternoon I found a small primer stash I forgot I had, stored away in an old utility outbuilding for many years. Some boxes chewed on by mice, also lots of mouse droppings. 2000 SR, 1000 each LR and LP. Will take some samples tomorrow to test and see if they are still sure fire. The are at least 25 years old. Price tag on the carton (1000) of LR was $15.49.
------------------------
I fired 10 primers of each size this afternoon (4/28). No misfires, so good to go. I normally use SR primers for most .32-20, .38 Special and .38 Super handgun loads, and that is how I tested the SR, in a revolver.

I just bought 2000 SPP magnum CCI primers from Natchez for $86/1000. They were allowing 5000/customer but I didn’t need that many. A couple days ago I received an email from Midway USA that the had Remington SPP in stock for $89 with a limit of 1000. A couple weeks ago I bought powder and primers from Powder Valley although they were expensive but they had what I wanted.

Go to the Hodgdon site, they sell direct at regular retail. They sell Hodgdon, IMR, Accurate and Ramshot. I’ve bought quite a bit direct from them. Of course you pay shipping and Hasmat but that’s the price of shooting today.

I’m afraid this is the new norm. If you want to shoot you have to pay the piper.

I just got 3000 SRPs for 70 per. M I just figured they were worth it. The best prices I have seen in the last year have been 8 dollars a hundred and only 500 or less allowed. I got 2000 Rem 7 1/2s and 1000 Win which I gave to a friend. He prefers Winchesters. I like the Rem 7 1/2s. At the last gun show I bought a 1000 Rem 6 1/2s for 40 bucks. Nobody uses them... I still use 'em in Hornets and light bullet 222s

I think I might start a new hobby ... Reloading Primers !!!

But Honey ... think of all the money I will be saving us ...after I buy the tools and priming compounds !!!

that story worked for Ammo Reloading and then again for Bullet Casting ... Third Times The Charm ... she should go for it again ...Right !

Last time I was at the Ft. Worth Cabelas they had primers at $80 a brick; not many but that was the price. Powder there is running $35-$40 a pound but again in limited supply. Powder is showing up at LGSs although tends to run towards $50 a pound at most of them although in the mid $30s occasionally. The ammo shelves at the big stores are full although perhaps not all calibers but if you want 308, 223, 9mm there is tons available at not unreasonable prices. The drought isn't over but its close. My irritation remains in not being able to find the bullets I want; 6.5s for Creedmoor and Grendel and 30s for 300 BLK. Plenty of 6.5 and 30 cal bullets but not the ones I need for hunting; maybe more soon. . . . .

Prices are high and will remain higher than those of 3 or more years ago. Why? Strong demand and limited production certainly are a big part of the equation, but today, the dollar is worth about 20% less than it was worth 3 years ago. So high demand, low production, and a weaker dollar means much higher prices. If you get small pistol primers for anything less than $100/1000, it is currently a good deal. If you see advertised prices of less than $70/1000, it is probably a scam. Things to watch for regarding scams would be low prices, no company history or Google reviews, phone number area code that does not correlate with their physical address, a physical address that turns out to be a private residence, an empty field, or a sports stadium, acceptance of crypto-currency for purchases, no business license or incorporation documents.

On the CCI website MSRP for primers are $60 to $120 per K. On the Federal $70 to $90. When will they go down? When fuel, copper, steel, PVC, food, auto's goes back down. I look at it as I have stocked up on primers, sometimes over paying, but did I mention I am stocked up?

Was recently reading something about the Pathan tribesmen of Afghanistan fighting the Russians during the 1980s invasion. They were "reloading" their fired primers using match heads. It may come to that here. Best to keep all those fired primers just in case.

I've had a long running plan to always keep a 3 year supply of ALL reloading components for ALL calibers I shoot. Consequently, I have been somewhat immune to all the shortage and price gouging for the last 3 occurrences . That said, even with primers at $100/K and powder at $50/lb, reloading is still a good deal. It's just that handgun ammo now costs closer to $10/box to reload vs the $6 it was 3 years ago. Considering range fodder is currently running $20 (9mm) - $40(38 spl) that's still a big savings. The best news is that the components are actually becoming available again.

When this is over, I'll happily restock again at whatever the cost settles in at.

Default Purchase only what you need....

The demand for reloading components, and the artificial panic about the supply will keep the price high. Wait about another year, and stock up then.

That would be an interesting experiment to perform. Would it be easier with berdan primers? I'm wondering how you would put an anvil back into a boxer primer, even if you did iron out the previous indent.

Do they make berdan primed 9mm or 38 special?

I had a chance to buy Federal primers a little while ago for $600 for 5000. I was tempted. Not happy but it wonít break the bank. I may do it next time. I lent my friend 5000 CCI primers a year or so ago. I told him he didnít have to pay me for them but I wanted him to replace them. I told him if he finds any kind of deal Iíll pay an upgrade to federal. If possible. I need them for my revolvers with trigger jobs shooting double action in Bullseye competition. If things get bad Iíll have to start shooting a 1911 instead of revolver.

If you do a search on reloading spent primers something will come up. I have seen a few posts and am much more comfortable paying $150 a 1000 than messing with some of the stuff that goes into primers. As far as matches? It was hard enough trying to find some that would flare 10 + years ago, let alone now.

The last 2 gun shows have had powder. {same place} 1st show was $35 lb. No budge. Walked away. Went to the same show about a week ago, and they had 4 or 5 kinds of powder for $30. I bought 1. NO PRIMERS except Cheddite 209's. Bob

Great planning, but i would refer to your supply buying as foresight, not "hoarding".... that is a word that so many with little foresight often use when they get caught with their pants down. Their complaint often goes something like this... "those damn hoarders. It's their fault i aint got nuthin".

BTW years ago i 'hoarded' enough Blue Dot and other powders ...plenty of primers too...that i'll never have to pay too much. And I don't feel guilty.

Things got a bit tight during the Obama years and learned my lesson, stocked up before the current situation. Did need rifle powder and went to the Hogdon site and got three pounds of IMR 4064 shipped for about $42/lb and HAZMAT and shipping ran it up to about $53/lb. Higher than I would have liked but they had it and I needed it. Probably good right now for four or five years. Agree that prices will never return to what they were, if for no other reason than inflation has driven the costs of material and labor costs up.

Fortunately I have primers for pistol (large, small & magnum) both large and small rifle and 209 shotgun primers. What I can't find is powder. I shoot a lot of sporting clays with vintage shotguns but the powder to fuel them is nowhere to be found.

Powder is pretty easy for me to find at a B&M by my brother-in-law's place. Only up about 25% from 2 years ago. I swing in every time I go see family.

A few weeks ago I was at a show in AZ where I saw primers mostly ranging from $80-120/brick. At $100 and under they sold, at $120+ they seemed to stay on the table. So, I was slightly hopeful things might have started to settle down, but national events have transpired since then...
This weekend I stopped at a show in CA, everybody there wanted $160 or so. Not sure if they were selling or not. How much is the changing times and how much is the difference between AZ and CA are matters I'm not inclined to speculate on, but I will say I'm less hopeful things are getting back to normal.

I'm sure you didn't mean $0.014 per 2000 which is only $28/2k. At that price I would have bought 20,000 primers without a doubt.

Yes, @ 14Ę - $280 for 2k primers is high but if you need them and you have the stomach for it, you buy them.

I can only wish they come down to no more than $40/k but I have a feeling that might never happen.

Until/if/sure would be great...primers ever come back to regular availability I am pretty certain the price will be about 60 dollars + or -. I am afraid the gummit is going to get involved with more taxes and more oversight on reloading supplies and ammo. They really do not like us, you know? I am almost of the opinion that if you see stuff now at any reasonable or maybe even slightly unreasonable price...it is time to buy! I sold literally millions of primers under 10 dollars a 1000 in the past.

Just paid $117.56/1000, which included shipping and hazmat for 5 bricks of small pistol. With Midway imposing limits, I prefer to just get it over with. My earning potential has an end in sight, whilst this pricing structure may not.

So you're saying you bought 2000 primers for only $28.00? Seriously? I don't think primers have been $14/k since maybe 1999.

FWIW, last week I paid 6.5 cents (less 5% for vet discount) at the Sportsman’s Warehouse in Cedar City, UT for Federal LPP Match. I was able to increase my stash by 600.
