varget for sale at hodgdon.com
shop.hodgdon.com is selling varget at $49.99/lb with a max of 5. $40.00 shipping + tax. They also have other powders such as US 869, CFE Blk, H4831, BL-C2, titegroup and HS-6. Varget will probably sell out very quickly so better act quickly.

BLc-2 was supposed to be discontinued a number of years ago. The uproar was probably heard on Mars. I'm sure Varget cut into the sales of BLc-2, but that should have been expected! One of my friends bought 15 pounds when the announcement came out!
I use Varget in several rounds: 308; 155 Palma is very hard to beat perfection. 223 Rem for 1000 yard 77 Berger Hybrid and seated long= 3 to 5" at 1000! In the medium length 6mm & 6.5mm rounds, Varget to the rescue!
I have a few 8 pounders of Varget to see me through this drought!
BTW, some primers and some powders don't work well together, but Varget has worked well with CCI BR-2 and BR-4, Federal 205M, 210M and 215M AND Remington 7 1/2. That covers a whole lot of accurate cartridges!

And don't forget the hazmat. Might as well max out your order as $90+ for a pound sounds like a lot.

Showing up
Wow! That’s some expensive powder! There
was Hodgdon Powder at the Ranch/Farm store
the other day.
I should have picked up a few pounds. Going
price was $35.00/pound plus tax.

Even thought Varget has a good following...........
it could not even hold a candle to what BLC-2 did for me in my 22-250 loads with 52-70 gr bullets.

I don't deeply object to the $50/lb, but if I can only buy four pounds the hazmat and shipping hurts my feeling a bit. I'll wait until they drop the limit or hopefully they start in with the 8# containers again and the per-pound price is a little lower.

Yes, It is about $60 on the secondary market when you can find it. Hodgdon has not had it for sale for over a year

Yes I wish that they would sell the 8 lb containers; however, the max is 5 of the 1lb bottles which comes out to $63.00 each with shipping and tax to texas. I have not been able to find Varget locally at all for a couple of years. Looking at some sales at gunbroker.com, varget is $499.95 for 8 lbs + 65.00 shipping + tax (77.00/lb) . The lowest price for a 1 lb jar is $73.87/lb +54.93 shipping + tax. I just think that the price and the availability of varget at hodgdon is a good deal. It is a good price and it is fresh powder. I did buy a 1lb of varget off gunbroker that was not a fresh bottle and i have reservations about using it. Varget is very popular in competitive circles and is my go to powder for .223 rem because it performed well in my hand loads when I shot across the course out to 600 yards as a competitive High power service rifle shooter. All of my friends also used it. This is all a moot point as Hodgdon is now out of stock of varget and we may not see it for a while.

I was a competitive high power service rifle shooter and I tried BLC-2 but it was too temperature sensitive. Varget is not temperature sensitive and it is very popular in the competition circles. It performed very well in my .223 rem loads out to 600 yards. Of course, YMMV

I just picked up more powder at my favorite reloading store. Pistol powders were in the 30-38 range, and rifle was in the 35-50 range. Had a number of rifle powders in 4 and 8# jugs at a lower per pound price.
My place had a good supply of Accurate # powders (at $35 a pound), and numerous IMR and Winchester powders. I saw a few Ramshot, and a fair variety of Vihtavuori powders in the $40s.
No primers.

I have been looking for some IMR 8208 for a while with no luck. I did find some IMR 4895 and some 4064 from midway a couple of months ago but no luck since. I did order 5 lbs of varget from Hodgdon.com for $315. That should help me get through this drought. I also found some remington 7-1/2 primers at targetsports.com. You might try them. Good Luck!
