I inadvertently ordered 500 9mm 150gr cast bullets instead of 115gr. I have found reloading data for a 147 gr bullet. However, there is nothing I can find for this heavier bullet.

Has anyone had any experience with loading this heavy bullet?

The only powder I have on hand is 231 and Bullseye.

4 grains of 231 will work just fine for the 147.

It will be subsonic in a 5" or shorter barrel and just be starting in on +P pressure depending on the hardness of your projectile

I have been loading 158s and 165s for years. They work great in the suppressed guns

I load Miester 150 grain LSWCs over 3.5 grains of Power Pistol for about 850fps out of a 952.

I've tried many powders with a 150 grain round nose cast bullet (Lyman #358212) in the 9mm. Best accuracy has been with Bullseye, but try 231 if you have it on hand.

3 grains isn't enough to worry about, as long as you have a similar bullet. If the sizing is the same and the bearing surface is similar, I'd use the listed starting load and work my way up. Way back when I loaded 147 gr cast over a large charge of Blue Dot (which is no longer a listed load).

I was about to say the same thing. A 3gr difference in similar bullets is nothing to worry about.

If you look at the Hornady manual you will see their data does just that. Look at the 30-06 data and you will see the same data for their 150gr and 155gd bullets. The same for their 165gr and 168gr bullets. The same holds true for their 176gr, 178gr and 180gr bullets. They are all listed at the top of the page with only 1 set of data below.

I would probably just use min. loads and OAL for a 147 gr. lead bullet of similar shape, right out of my manual(s) and work up if necessary (especially with new components)...

Lot of 158 and 160 gr bullets have been loaded in the 9mm, so those
150's should be fine, if you stay within the guide lines.

Just don't seat them too deep to raise pressures and follow the loading data that is available.

You need to pay attention to the bullet's type of nose shape and Ogive, for a OAL
that will work with that bullet and your pistol and magazine.

3.5 grs of Bullseye or w231 should get that bullet clear of your barrel, for a target load. ( in my pistols )

I took my new Girsan Highpower clone to the range the other day. I was really excited to shoot this for the first time. I haven't bought a new gun in quite a while and I was feeling like a young kid at Christmas with a new toy.

I ended up using 3.2 grains of 231 behind the 150-grain lead bullet and the recoil was very light, but the accuracy was miserable. I then tried my standard 9mm load of a 115 grain Missouri hi tec bullet and 4.0 grains of 231. The results were the same. The bullets did not group at all and were all over the target. I have used this load for many years in all my 9mms with great results.

Are fmj the only bullets to be used in the Highpower platform? The current cost of the same makes it prohibitive for me to shoot as much as I would like to.

Has anyone had any success with shooting lead in Highpowers?
