I don’t see how it would be. The shell headspaces on the rim. I’d guess someone got overly aggressive seating primers, but I’ve learned over the years to never say never about how stuff like this happens.

That isn't a Headspace problem. I think it a too many times hot load problem.

Those Federal Top Gun hulls are reloadable in the technical sense, but their reloadable life is very short! The core around the primer reinforces the center, the edges get pushed back causing what you see. I have a Berretta 390 that has this happen once and a while. If you're shooting trap a night, everybody gets to see the Dragon breathe fire out you bolt opening (but nobody sees it in daytime)

That same thing can happen to Estate hulls when loaded more than two times
depending on the load grams and powders used.

Quality brass hulls , hold up a lot better, if you reload your hulls.

I prefer the "Uni" hulls over the paper base, for my reloads.

I will load factory paper base hulls, just one time for hunting in the field and let them lay.

I was using federal Paper hulls and found that I needed to carry plyers to pull the cardboard tube out of the barrels at around 4 reloads! So I reload for sporting clays once, then load 'em for fun then trash 'em after that! (I found that using feathers instead of a shot cup makes interesting ammo!) (Think White Cloud)

Sorry guys. I just thought these were interesting. They actually were shot out of a cannon at a local restaurant that overlooks a lake. They fire it at sunset every day. I had no idea they used live rounds. I'm assuming the firing pin is a little long. LOL
