I've never used W 231 in mine. The bullet I use is the Remington 250gr swaged lead meant for the 45 Colt. It has 2 crimp rings to select from, it is kind of messy to work with. Pretty accurate in my New Service.

I routinely use the Remington 250 grain lead flat point bullet. It's .455 diameter, which is good for the Webley cartridge. I use 4.3 grains of W231 and standard large pistol primers in Hornady brass. I use a light roll crimp in the upper lube groove. The bullets are messy to handle, but are very accurate and cause no leading at these low velocities.

My revolver is a S&W 2nd Model that shipped in 1915 to England. It has the officers name engraved on the frame and I was able to track down his WWI service record. Although the gun saw service in France, it's in remarkably good condition.

There's something about shooting these historic pieces that you just don't get with a 9mm Glock!

Hi HKSmith thats pretty much the same load that i reload mine with accept i used 250gr.RN cast bullets from an Ideal Antique mold with 4.3gr Win 231 and Hornady Brass and Win WLP Primers I'm happy with the performance that i'm getting out of it this is a pretty accurate load the best mine doing is about a 4" grouping at 75ft i know i could do better with more practise. I'm using the same gun 455 HE 2nd Model. Dates to Sept.1916 no military markings of any kind accept a crown with the #30 on the butt.

I have a Webley Mark IV .455 from the Boer War era that I load with Red Dot or Unique and .454 diameter 250-255 grain lead bullets.

I'd be interested to hear about others' efforts with the round.

I'd caution against using the Fiocchi brass as it is very flimsy.

Have only tried three powders in handloads for my .455 S&W H.E. 1st Model,Bullseye, GreenDot, and 231. I'm using new Hornady brass, and either the Remington 250g. LRN .455", or the Oregon Trail 255g. LSWC .454" bullets. Loaded GreenDot
in charges from 3.2g. to 3.6g. and velocities ran from 530fps to 625fps with 25 yd. groups running
from 4 to 5 inches. GreenDot discarded for the .455 MkII. Bullseye was tried with both O.T. and Rem. bullets in charges from 3.7 to 4.0 grains, with my S&W prefering the O.T. bullet,
one grouped into 1.5" (3.8g.). Velocities ranged from 750 to 820fps. W231 has been tried with both bullets as above with charges from 4.0 to 4.2g. with the O.T. bullet gaining a small accuracy advantage with a round 2" 25yd group at 4.2g. and 725fps. Hope this helps.

I too have had best results using the Remington 250 RNF lead bullet in .45 AR cases. My Enfield MkVI was cut for .45 ACP and moonclips.

Mild charges of WW 231, R. Dot, G. Dot, or Unique to give 650-700 fps gave the most accurate loads.

I've tried various cast .45 Colt bullets, but since the groove diameter is 0.456", nothing seems to seal as well as the hollowbase Remington.
