Unfortunately for the buyers and fortunately for the sellers brass prices are up.

From what I have been seeing both the 44 Special and 44 Magnum cases are running around $30/100. I'm guessing prices will fluctuate in different parts of the country.

I hope that price is close to what it would be where you are selling, good luck at the show.

Check ammoseek. You can look up what the going rate is for once fired across many vendors. Prices vary widely according to caliber and whether it’s premium (starline), or just mixed head stamp range brass.

I've done gun shows on a very irregular basis for forty years and attempted to sell once-fired brass. Results have always been pretty evenly divided between hit or miss, and I don't know why. When I have sold it, it doesn't seem to bring much, like handloading equipment and bullet moulds at a gun show. If I have plenty of guns, scopes, etc., to take up table space, I'll leave the brass at home.

Nowadays with the shortages, things might be very different.

You can buy new Starline 44 Spl and Mag for 25c each - so that what 0x fired goes for.

4 months ago I was looking for 3-4K 38 special for target loads . Between the outrageous asking prices & lack of supply ( wanted single headstamp R-p , Fed or Win ) wound up buying new Starline for just a bit more .

You are correct (prices listed state 25 cents each) BUT both are on back order and have been so for a long time...

I guess I will price mine at 20 cents each and see what happens at the gun show...

It helps if the brass is capped and cleaned.

Northwest Iowa Brass shows in stock mixed headstamp for 48 cents and Diamond K has it for 49 cents. Interestingly, Steinel Ammo shows new Starline for 28 cents each. Not sure I’d trust that, it says “in stock (can be back ordered)”…rather cryptic.
Download the ammoseek app and see what’s in stock and where.
Incidentally, when they say cleaned and polished, it usually means they ran it in a dry media tumbler with old media for 20 or 30 minutes and didn’t decap it. At least from my experience. Doesn’t matter much to me, though. I wet tumble everything. The brass I sell (when I sell excess)is decapped and wet tumbled and looks new.

Edit to add:
Have you thought about selling it here in the classifieds? The harder to get calibers usually go quickly and shipping is a breeze with USPS flat rate boxes.

My experience with Starline if you can order it - even if it shows backorder - they ship within days.

Starline is always excellent service and brass. I just picked up another 500 of 41 mag *-* brass at armorally for under 25 c ea. a couple weeks back. Their service was great.

While it's true they are listed for 25˘ each that's for a 500 count. Also, you can list them for anything you want if you don't have any. They aren't 25˘ each until you can buy them.

If it were my brass I would not give them away for only 20˘ each. Look online and you will see once fired 44 Spl/44 Mag brass is much more. If you want to be a really good guy sell them for 30˘ each which is well below the current in stock market for once fired 44 Special brass.

44 Special bulk once fired brass for reloading free shipping in stock

Of course do what you want to do as long as you don't cheat yourself or the buyer.

Nickel plated brass is much preferred for carry ammo. Plane brass is much preferred for reloading.

The Coumbus, Ohio PD reloaded all their training ammo in the days of the Model 10. Something to the tune of 350,000 to 500,000 a year. Issued duty ammo was used for qualifying and was the source of much of the brass for training ammo. Every year about 10,000 new non-plated brass was also dump into the mix for reloading. The Remington nickel plated brass was the most common failed cast! Old non plated Winchester brass just seemed to last forever!

Default Thanks for all the replies!

Thank you for all the good replies...I do not have a lot of brass but, just do not want to scrap it...from the above replies it appears I should raise my selling price to 30 cents each...

I went to the Tulsa gun show last weekend. Prices for once fired, de-primed, cleaned brass was about twice what I could buy new brass for at the local Bass Pro Shop. Needless to say I didn't buy any.

Lordy, Im going to HAVE to find out who this guy is and send him a fruitcake for Christmas.
Someone at the range where I always shoot just fires mounds of 44mag, 44Spl and yesterday 60 rounds of 44Russian, and just leaves it. Primer pockets are always pretty shiney as is the brass. Apparently he likes to shoot Saturdays and me Sundays and since I always am about an hour early I always cruise the ranges for brass, and collect it. The RO's nor the owners mind since I shoot there every week for about 6 years now I suppose.
So the brass may lay out overnight so its all very clean still. No joking Id guess that in the past month Ive collected maybe 300 mag cases, maybe 200 Special cases and 60 Russians, all Starline brass.
So I think this guys deserves a fruitcake no?

Not only a fruit cake but a birthday card every year forever!

The public range I shoot at is on PA Game Lands and serviced by them. There used to be a barrel where you could usually find boxes of rifle brass and some handgun brass too and of course other stuff like targets and the like. They removed the barrel because some jerk kept setting it on fire, probably to make more room in the barrel. Then the game commission ordered everyone to remove your targets from the shooting supports and clean up all your brass and take it with you. It's been many years since any brass has been available at the range, nothing!

You are very lucky you can still find brass at your range. None of the ranges here has brass on the ground or anywhere else.

The RSO's pick it up all the time but sometimes theyre overwhelmed, I see it. That place is rocking 7 days a week. Sometimes if I have a day off during the work week Ill go down there thinking Ill no have to put up with the crowds, NOT. Its always busy and I mean always, all year. Id hate to try to count the people who come through there on a weekend, and I dont even see the 3gun course or the huge clays setup they have. There is always a few classes who cycle through, always see a bunch of LEO's there, military guys, its a diverse group for sure. Mostly the brass is the usual stuff, 9mm, 40, 45, 223 and 12gauge, the revolver stuff is less common so I spot it easily.
They have 5 big blue plastic 55gallin drums with the tops cut off for brass and theyre always full. They have a bunch of those brass collectors that you roll along. Its crazy.

I would like to see the guy who leaves all of that starline brass, Id buy him a coke or something.

And this is exactly why I drive out to the desert to do my shooting. Plenty of brass to pick up out there as well.

Starline like Roze Dist ( Zero Bullets ) will 9 out of 10 times show not in stock . Go ahead & order 90% of the time it'll ship within a week . I've bought over 10K cases in different calibers in the last month from Starline FWIW .

Sadly for me my friend I have no other options, rather, that range is by far my best option. I have to drive 40 minutes one way as it is. Thats also why when I go I usually shoot for 6.or 7 hours. Thats my Sunday time.
The desert sounds great. Lived in Tucson for a few years many moons ago but I can still remember the smell of the desert.

I do want to add that I dont pick up the brass, any brass because I necessarily need it but some I jist am not going to pass up and just let it lay there. To my knowledge the store there at the range has never sold the collected brass so I guess they just scrap it so no, Im not going to pass on any revolver brass especially, or good 10mm, or good 45acp.
I have bin after bin of good cleaned and prepped brass in every caliber I reload, some is even reprimed and annealed (LC 5.56). The only caliber Im short on is 6.8SPC so if anyone, ANYONE, has some they dont need or want, if its small primer, Ill buy it. Remington and PPU I think are the only LP ones. Best, by far is S&B or old SSA, then Hornady and last Federal.
I probably have over 2k 44mag cases, 500 new Starline and a boatload of Remington, WW,PMC, JAG, etc. 44spl I only have about 1k, 10mm I have 4 plastic totes full all prepped and sorted, .45acp, same thing. Id be scared to count the 38 and 357 cases or the LC 5.56, again all sorted by year and fully prepped, like match rifle prepped. I have 6 plastic bins of just 223 blaster brass.

Im like a packrat now with brass. Whenever I go to the range I collect brass because I cant not. Its a disease.

I'm just getting back into reloading after a number of years (30+) being away from it. Regarding your wet polishing, do you use a mixture of liquids to complete this task or is it just water that you use? I dry polish my brass with crushed walnuts and a few drops of "Brasso" for a minimum of three hours after which I wash it (to get rid of any dust) and dry at 160 degrees F. for three hours. I have only washed the brass if it was dirty range brass and for that I do the following: place brass in a clear plastic container with soap, lemon juice, and water with a cover. I throw it into my clothes washer (front load) with a load of cloths and let the washer action do its thing for the duration of the washing cycle and then to the dryer for three hours at 160 degrees F. after rinsing the brass. Is this an overkill and should I change my line of thinking and the way I'm doing things? Thanks for any suggestions you or others may have in advance.

I just throw my brass in the vibratory “ tumbler” with a mix of walnut hulls and raw rice with media boost added. Real dirty gets the over night treatment. Little to no dust, if any wipe it off when depriming/ sizing.

I just picked up 1K nickel 9mm & 500 357 Magnum nickel cases from Capitol Cartridge...

$35 for the former and $40 for the latter.

I was flat amazed at the quality of the brass: there were 516 good 357 Mag cases after I deprimed them and ran them through the Thumlers, then resized. I will reinspect when they are expanded and primed, but I only needed to toss two(!) and that was because the primers broke through and I wasn't going to spend any time with an EZ Out or some other foolishness just for a couple cases. Not a single case had a crack at the rim!

The nickled 9mm cases were so clean I didn't need to wash them & actually deprimed & resized them in one fell swoop! I almost NEVER do that (in an attempt to keep my sizing dies unscratched and pristine): since I have a couple of NIB Hornady 9mm sizing dies as spares I'm not too concerned.

This is not my 1st brass purchase from Capitol and my only surprise was finding out most of the 45 ACP nickel cases I bought a while ago were actually Speer +Ps with small pistol primers... Check them out sometime.

Now, with LPPs few and far between I'm not at all displeased.

Cheers!
